84 d150 to 06 cr cummins

Postby 84dragtruck » Sun Dec 02, 2012 7:19 pm

Building a drag truck. It's an 84 d150 that had a big block 440 in it when I bought it. Question is I'm putting a fully built 06 cr cummins into it. Will I need to put a diesel core support in? Haven't figured out what I'm going to do for an intercooler for sure yet. Might do an air to air, might mount a water to air in the cab in place of the passenger seat, might not run one and just spray the heck out of it in the hot side going to the intake.

You don't have to put a later cummins core support in there.....however if you do not your going to want one nearby to help with the mounts for the larger radiator that you need for the cummins.

I used the parts from a cummins truck and transferred them onto the 80 grille in my swap. Was a fair bit of work but I had a bent up cummins core support from a wrecked 93 and a descent one from the 80 with the headlight buckets in the right location.

Not sure if that helps at all.

Daily driver?

If so, I would get a diesel support and fit in an air/air cooler. If just a drag truck, you cannot beat air/water for IAT and power.

Full out drag truck. Might see the street for a quick few mile rip but thats bout it. Also debating if I sink the rear cylinder to cylinder and a half into the fire wall for not only room in front of the engine but also to put more weight on the rear.

Might wanna do that J, mine don't hook for beans. And number one is behind front axle centerline in mine if I were to do it again it would be back further.

I would do the A2W then because you can locate all that stuff rearward to help with weight distribution.

Ya. I'd agree with you there. But I'm also thinking of adding a second funny car cage so I can take people for rides down the track.
