89 RC 6BT swap.

Postby derka540 » Mon Dec 03, 2012 6:00 am

Hello folks, new here, but have been reading many threads for research.

I have read quite a bit on this, and I'm actively searching for a donor truck. Im just looking for some advice from those who have done the swap into a RC or w/d 150 trucks. I plan on obtaining an 89-93 CTD 3/4-1 tonne at a reasonable price, and swapping the motors with my ramcharger.

Now in most swaps i have read, they swap the running gear (obvious reasons) but if i were to leave the running gear is it is, (d44 front d60 rear) and add an overload spring to the front leafs can i get away with this?

Also to confirm, bolting the 6bt to the 727tf, is direct bolt, right? somewhere i read something about a bell-housing has to be changed.

The diesel trans has a completely different bellhousing setup on it and AFAIK. They're not interchangeable, so you'll have to use the trans that came behind a diesel.

I have no experience with using the 44 under a Cummins but I wouldn't do it. I'd assume it would chew up balljoints pretty bad.

If your just going to cruise it on the street and not beat on it with near stock power you will be ok. It will eat balljoints faster but will live. Now if you take it off road i would swap a 60 in the front at least.

No v8 trans will bolt up
1800 is a good price that's what I paid for my first donor and the trans and rear end were fried
Good luck
