Bumped the pump timing 1/8" and turned the fuel pin a bit. ;)

Crossmembers, front suspension and front axle is in place! :D Some of the frame also cleaned up and primed/painted, as well as part of the underside of the cab floor. Only went back as far as I needed to (stuff I really can't get with the engine and trans in the hole), so I can do the rest behind of the t-case later.

If everything goes right, I'll have the engine and trans in place on Sunday. (crosses fingers! )

Need to take more of it's current state, though! Have a few on my phone, but no deal to get them off of a mini-SD card to the computer. Used to have an adapter, but can't find it! :P

That's a HUGE garage! I might have to make a trip out there to use it.
And I can't wait to see some more done on it. Did you remove the front cross member? or did the gasers not have one?

The front and 2wd engine cross members came out. Probably could've left the stock front one in place, other than that the only way to get the 4wd diesel crossmember into place without a hack job. Got all those parts out of the 93 donor truck. :D

The new shop at work is 72'x90'. :D

Been kinda busy workin', but dinked around on the crew motor tonight. Got the oil pan pounded back out. Now the oil pick up tube doesn't touch the pan at all. was before I had the screw up. Got those dents out, too. Need to pick up another oil pan gasket, as this one tore on me. No real shocker.

Got the broke A/C compressor off. The top 2 bolts were snapped off (remainder came out easy, though. :D ), and the other 2 came out pretty east. One of those was bent.

Ready to pull the timing case cover off again. Got my hands on a good used PDR street cam. ;) While the engine is still on the stand, I can flip it upside down to pull the cam out, vs the BS tray for the followers, or the dowel and rubber band trick.

Got the engine, 5600 and 205 in this afternoon, with help the help of my dad! :D Still need to deal with the rear crossmember yet. Can now see if the old stocker can be reworked, or make up a new one like MMiller did for his 5600 install.

Had JUST enough room to slide the trans and engine in together. :D Had to pop the rear valve cover off and remove the brake line bracket off of the engine crossmember for clearance. Other than that, pretty straight forward. :D

will have more pics to add later tonight, or tomorrow. :)

Cab still a mess, but not too far from putting things back in, and replacing the red dash, for a gray one. Seats will eventually be swapped, as will be the crappy door panels. Still need to cut a hole for the shift tower, too.

Re: '82 Crew conversion

Nothing got done last weekend. Wound up working the whole thing.

But, got the tranny crossmember in today. Was able to mod the original one, and added a piece of 3/8" plate for use with the 2nd gen trans mount. Made a plate to bolt to the tranny, for the top side of the mount. For some dumb reason, the face of the trans where the plate is, isn't flat. Angled a bit. Used the chop saw to make 2 cuts part way down the plate and used the torch to bend the ends a bit and rewelded it back together. Just did a guess on the angle, but came out right the first time. :D

Used one OEM hole (each side) in the frame for the cross member and drilled out the other 4. Used a small hyd floor jack on the butt end of my air drill to act as a drill press. With a bit of cutting oil a few times on each, the bit went through like butter! :D No sore arms! :D

Need a driveshaft made up and check out the rear end. Do that, and basically, the powertrain/drivetrain will be to the point of making it mobile. :D Front end still needs kingpin work, but the worst of it is getting over. :D

Re: '82 Crew conversion

Been pretty busy, and not much has gotten done, til lately. Had to install new seals and o-rings on the vac and ps pumps. Even the o-ring for the ps reservoir got hard and started leaking. The $16 for the vac seal kit from Cummins was sure less than the $75 the Dodge dealer wanted. Some of the dealer parts I've gotten have been very competitive. Or, at least enough it wasn't worth the gas to go elsewhere.

Been trying to get the fuel system bled and get it fired up. The stock lift pump wouldn't prime, so i dug out a new electric pump I had laying around. Good for up to 9psi. Almost had it going, but the POS battery gave up and won't hold a charge, let alone have ANY reserve capacity. So, got a new one tonight. We'll see what happens tomorrow. Can't hardly wait to drive this thing! :D
