'82 Crew conversion

Postby bmoeller » Mon Dec 10, 2012 10:32 pm

Just picked up the crew that Mark had for sale. :)

http://s1053.beta.photobucket.com/user/ ... %20crewcab

The plan is for a VE pumped 12v, Getrag or 5600, 205 or 241DHD and adding a D60 up front. Already have a D80 slid under the rear. Need to roll it back out, and check it out. See what it needs, if anything beyong a good cleaning.

Got the truck washed up, on the outside tonight. Was pretty dirty. Turned out better than I thought it might. :D Will have to get a better pic up. Lights in shop were to bright and shooting a pic looking up towards the truck, with it still on the trailer.

This is going to take quite a while to do, I'm sure, so progress and updates will be slow. Will add the pics to my Photobucket album. Hoping I can get another 4x4 donor cheap enough, to avoid tearing the 93 apart to do the conversion. Even with the miles, its still a great truck. :D

I will be watching and may lend a hand a few times.

Personally, i would get an Eaton or similar 6 speed for the heavy duty aspect.

Would love a 13spd RoadRanger and a divorced t-case. $$$ will limit the idea, for the time being.

Well, I got the ol' 360 fired up today. Runs VERY nicely! No need to give it ANY input from me to start it. Used some fogging oil through the spark plug holes last night, before spinning it over today. Found 1 or 2 holes that may like some oil. Blew plenty of crap out when I fired it up. Smoked the shop out pretty good!

Trying to figure out why an "in-line" fuel filter would have 3 used ports on it. 1 looks to be a return? Don't know. Not a dual feed Holley. I'm too big to fit under a 2wd truck to investigate it any further, and my ramps are under a 97 Cummins right now. :P Have to look later.

Can't wait to get the rear end checked out and the driveshaft hooked up and drive it. :D

I am looking into a clark 280 5 speed for mine. They have a 10 spline 1.375 input (nv5600 size) and the input is 1/2" shorter than a 4500. If you had the 4500 adapter plate, mile 1/2" off the bell housing face and run a redrilled 4500 bell. Then you can run a divorced case or make an adapter to marry

Yes Bryan thats a return line. Lots of truck pullers around here use a clark 5 spd in their 2 wheel drive altered trucks. Theres plenty of old grain trucks around here to lend them as well.

Thanks guys! :)

If that 5spd is the one I think it is, is has 1st and R in the same spot as the big trucks right? We used have one in a C70 and an old Ford L900. Really liked them. :) No O/D though??

No clue on the overdrive, as they locals only go 300' at a time lol. The 1st and reverse deal sounds right tho.

If it's what I think it is, no O/D in them. Had one in a Uhaul truck once, too. 3rd needed a synchro, but we made it from IL to FL anyhow. Odo rolled over to 300k on the way down too.

With no O/D, a 3.07 axle would help.
