#6 cylinder is scratched pretty good on mine, sometimes it knocks, sometimes it doesn't fully warm. If it isn't at least halfway warm, it knocks pretty much all the time. Assuming it's piston/ring slap. Maybe the ring(s) line up with the scratches sometimes and it runs half decent.
it is always noticeable at highway speeds now, once it gets a steady load on it. Not so noticeable around town. I have it plugged in 24/7, seeing as how I don't have to pay for power in my stall, but even with a cold start, rpm is only 50-100 lower than fully warm on mine.
