I know Pete,this one was cheap ;-)
I don't care for the pyro,it doesn't use any power wire. Somehow the temp probe make voltage and cuases it to move. It kind of screwy.

My first pyro was a Stewart Warner like that. It is a little slower to respond but I never had a problem with it.

Yeah, before I desided to use it,I used a propane torch (plumbers torch) and heated the thermo coupler up to check it out. It is slow as Christmas
The plan is to use this long enough to get over the fence, winter grass planting and hay buying for winter, and buy some nice autometer units. More than likely it'll happen after Christmas.

On a side note.....I just finished reading the "junker drag truck" tread on compD. Man oh man, you can pick up so much info off of that one tread there's no reason to dig thru the rest of the forum. If you want to know what works on a ppump setup, look there.
No wonder folks use them to make power.....once you get the timing figured out on them there's nothing to them. Or at least that tread makes it seem that way. Bigblue doesn't really take a whole lot of time with the afc adjustment aspects of the tuning but I'm sure that part of it is not all that different than ours.
I can't wait to mess with this little truck. I just hope it does break.....often

One of the things I read on afc tuning was go until you lose some responsiveness. then loosen it off a touch

Dman I've fooled around with the fuel plate and afc some already but no real mods to the afc just yet. Hopefully I'll get the gauges on the dash tomorrow afternoon and then I'll make some improvements :)

If you grind the fuel plate be careful, go too far and you'll be cooking it. I had to play with mine to get the temps back down from 13-1400*. All I did was change the plate to one a guy gave me. I think it's close to a 100.

By "fool with" I meant slid back. I have cut on it....yet. Hell I can't even get the dang gauges installed. Absolutely no time to do it today.
I spent the whole damn day driving t-post and tying them to fence wire. The plan was to stop around 3 and work on the truck, instead I wound up getting rained on and getting that dang heavy a$$ john Deere stuck in a soft spot. Trying to stretch fence over an area old branch head is proving difficult. :?

Another good ratio for cubic dollars to cubic horsepower is getting your pump balanced. Seriously. Send it off to Seth Farrell at Farrell Diesel Services and the truck becomes a whole different animal. More tame at part throttle, an absolute beast at WOT. Not only do they tune your AFC for different CC's at different settings, they also flow match the barrels and plungers, time the plungers to even tighter specs so they fire a more even amount of fuel across the board, and they have a huge reputation.

BigBlue definitely has brought a lot of knowledge and freely shared it. Another one of his threads is about rebuilding a 48RE, which may apply to 47's.

Jon I'll do something like that once time tells the tale of this thing holding up. With 325+ on the motor,I doubt it.

I got word at church that the paw-in-laws 01 dodge is ill. They were running it and it just bogged and died, then magically restarted. I hope it's not another vp issue, this will make three.
Anywho.....I'll be pimping it this week to reproduce the issue so I desided to go a little farther than I wanted originally.
I have ran these trucks for years and have never had decent dash lights. Due to a Facebook post in one of the 73 to87 chevy groups,I felt like I should give this a try. Basically you take some of that plastic adhesion paint and paint the back of the instrument cluster so the lights has a better reflective surface.

And this is the crap I had to remove

I've kind of taken a big risk fooling around with a 32yr old printed circuit

You slide the plate ahead to go faster. My plate was in a baggie in the door when I got it. I put it back in, and being a newbie I slid it all the way to the rear. Then I kept bitching how the truck was a gutless pig. I did some research and asked a few questions and found out that the factory setting is about the middle of the slot for the plate and the AFC housing. So being the conservative fellow that I am, I slid the plate and the housing all the way to the front. I bet it gained over 30hp. And when I put in the donated plate, it went all the forward again. No wonder I could hit 1300.

Sounds like the VP is puking out again.

That cluster looks good.

You could also switch to LED 194's instead of incandescents. They'll brighten things up some too

Pete I think I went the right way  idk tho it's been awhile since I did it. The dude that owned the truck the motor is from was helping. I'll blame it on him anyhow

Dman I don't have time to order any off of eBay,but I'll look on O'Reillys web site in the morning. I do have some green ones for the dodge tho,I'd like to keep these white.

Dug around my chevy parts and found a cluster from an older model with a 100mph speeder meter in it to replace the 85mph unit. Painted the needles and the color blocks on the other gauges. Reassembled most of it and need to polish the clear cover. It's really scratched up and I can't stand the cloudy look either.

Also mounted the pod in its permanent spot

Hopefully I get to go back together with it tomorrow night  I'm missing it

That freaker dodge of the FIL's has yet to act up in 70 miles. The mil says it did it to her every time she drove it....I felt like say "stay out of it,it doesn't like you...yo"

Dashboard is back in! What a humongous pita too! Between all the wire and the copper tubing, snaking that crap thru the dash was tedious. Had to move the dash pad a little at a time and pull the slack at the same time...under the dash. I almost didn't have enough arm for that
The cluster painting thing worked like a champ,it's at least twice as bright even with the plain Jane bulbs in it. (O'Reilly wanted 20$ for a two pack of LEDs  )
Looks good....to me ;)
Image
I have to wipe everything down now,my woodworking shop is not a very clean place.
Image

Now I have to hook up all the gauges, and rig the cruise up. Then it's play time 8)

Also I was looking on eBay and seen those fuel plates on there for 65$ shipped.
Reckon why there so much cheaper than the others offered on some online venders?

Supposedly they are milled steel that's hardened
