#6 cylinder is scratched pretty good on mine, sometimes it knocks, sometimes it doesn't fully warm. If it isn't at least halfway warm, it knocks pretty much all the time. Assuming it's piston/ring slap. Maybe the ring(s) line up with the scratches sometimes and it runs half decent. it is always noticeable at highway speeds now, once it gets a steady load on it. Not so noticeable around town. I have it plugged in 24/7, seeing as how I don't have to pay for power in my stall, but even with a cold start, rpm is only 50-100 lower than fully warm on mine.

Ellis you won't be sorry getting a converter from DPC. Phil builds a great converter.

It's pretty bad too Andy. Ever since I did the timing and 4k springs it's been there, and only at about 2400 rpm. Converter locked/unlocked....doesn't matter. Caleb made mention that his converter in his dodge made noise and when he got another installed the noise went away. I'm really hoping that's the case here. Caleb! What do you think?

Nothing changes.....oil psi, temp, egt, fuel psi...it all stays the same when it starts coming on.

It could be a converter issue I suppose. So it goes away with higher or lower rpm? Has it slipped through the converter anymore or just that one time?

I watched the video a few times. I wouldn't bet the farm on my diagnosis over a youtube video, but it sounds similar to what I had. My converter was ballooned pretty bad and I would sure bet the flex plate had tiny cracks in it. I changed the converter and flex plate and the noise was cut down by 80%. It sounded like #6 was making noise, but it was in the bell housing. I ran the valves like 3 times and the noise didn't go away.

Couple thoughts here- "Billet" backed converter? Factory flex plate? Guess on power? Does it feel like the converter stall has gone up?

I was +100 hp and I ballooned the stock converter. I suspect I cracked the flex plate and many others have torn up stock flex plates on mild engines. When the converter balloons, the stall goes up.

Yes the converter is loose as hell. Yes billit cover. Yes stock flexplate.
I have no idea on power, nothing to compare it to. It's damn strong tho, watch the vid again and watch the speedometer. It's jerky but it's correct. The truck is still pretty lean as well,if I could get rid of this noise I'd put more fuel to it.

It'll blow thru it Andy every time you mash on it,unlocked. I'll put it like this....if I'm on the throttle hard in 4th and lock the converter, the rpms drop by like 900 to 1100. That's a bunch of slip....to me,I'm of the mind it should drop like 4 or 5 with mostly engine volume dropping. Not acting like a whole different gear.

Ok I'm 95% sure your converter is sick. Maybe the billet back didn't give but the flex plate did.

I would say the converter is taking a sthi on it. Even listening to it in the computer I hear a rattle but my hearing sucks so bad anymore its hard to distinguish. It sounds louder when you get on it is about all I can tell.

Well at less both of you don't think it's a rod. That's kinda been the suspicion I've had for the last little while. It just has the rythem, just not the total noise.
I appreciate the opinions and all guys. I'll probably limp it along for a while and see what's up with the converter guy mentioned earlier.

I would think k if it was a rod it would be very noticeable all the time.

The noise I had was a dull tapping. After running the valves, I was chitting bricks since it didn't go away. Without hearing it first hand, I'd have to say the situations are the same.
