I don't see any vehicle with that frontal area getting that mileage, but whatever.

Yeah....kinda like throwing a dumpster in the wind

1st gen's are no better on the "front like a brick" aerodynamics, neither are any of the GM trucks, for that matter.
I had a 1996 2500 with a 5 speed that routinely got 20 mpg with 245/75/R16 tires (short), I'm sure it would have jumped up a few MPGs with taller tires or 3.07 gears.

Right, which brings me back to the variable timing.......stock form to stock form comparison, the first gen truck gets the best mileage with the worst shape.....brick form  but with less weight.

Well, we are only talking about a damned Chevy.
Who needs power in one of those?

If you're going to cruise in the P-7100's torque zone all the time, leave it there.
If you're really that in love with the VE, and you desire the cussing and work to swap it to VE, then do so.
Changing it may turn out to be a pig and a poke, no appreciable gain, other than maybe some lower rpm driveability.

Who wouldn't want it.....least in the Chevy I'd have no problems with the headlights going out with little warning,at night....when its dark  I shouldn't have any weirdo smells coming from the fuse box or a blower motor that changes fan speed all by itself.
I might end up with a good truck  then again....there might be enough dodge left on that Cummins to ruin what's left of my Chevy too

It's going in as is,I'll try it out for awhile just to see what happens.

It just pisses the Chevy BOYS off that Dodge got a REAL engine, so they nitpick everything they can't fix in the dodge.
With that, I've never had a Chevy I could get the rodent smell out of!

Ellis, it's all in good fun, if there is anything an old square bodied Chevy does well, it's give a good ride.
I still feel, pound for pound and $ for $, the 454, and it's stroker derivatives, is still the cheapest bang-for-the-buck engine to build for all-out drag racing. 8)

I got a old boy around here that builds wicked Ford motors cheap. I've tried to give GM a chance just don't care for there engines. Back on topic though with the p-pump motor you should still get good mileage.

Somethin is wrong with your skills

Yeah it's gonna stay.....for now. I'm on the hunt for some psi switches/hobbs switches to work the trans without that damn computer right now, gonna try to keep this thing simple. No grids,no computer,no funky dodge charging system

That air dam under the front adds mpg. I saw a 1st gen in a pic that had something wrapped around the front, it was about 6 inches off the ground. That guy was claiming really good mileage too.

Andys problem with big blocks is he doesn't measure oil pan to pickup clearance. ;)

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.
