I know, just wanted to try something else for a change...it does move a little more air for some reason...the thing will touch 40psi, but I have to be really careful letting off the go pedal, pretty easy to bark the thing, that's half the reason I want tow swap something else on. I was thinking of getting a HE351CW, but one of those FMW62's look pretty awesome...but not so awesome on the cost.

Ike.... I am currently working on getting much lower costs on that 62fmw. That turbo is well worth the money.

Right on!

Just for $hits and kicks, think it would make a good secondary when paired with a S472 or S475?

Yes and no. It would, but if one were to go compounds.... would be much better off going with a lot faster spooling secondary (351, or super b, etc..)

Ok, the D70 is getting really growly, its time to do something about it. Been doing some thinking and searching, and I have come up with a couple options.

1. Rebuild the D70, new bearings, clutch disks and side gears, and install the good used 3.07 R&P I got a while back. Cost is gonna be upwards of $800+/-, as the parts to rebuild the limited slip aren't cheap if I use OE Spicer parts. New Spicer limited slips are about $650+/-, and spider gears, clutches and cups are in the $520+/- range.

2. D80 swap. I have located several D80's of the drum brake variety, both SRW and C&C varieties in 3.54 ratio for less than $500. Fine and dandy, but now the front axle assembly/front axle ratio needs changed. Haven't been able to locate a D60F with 3.54's for less than $600. I have found a gutted housing for $200, also located new Yukon master overhaul kit for $150, and a good used set 3.54 R&P for less than $100. I'll reuse all the new parts I put on the D61F (knuckles out). Not really feeling warm and fuzzy about running a 3.54 R&P in the current D61 as I'd have to use a ring to carrier spacer.

I found a set of axles from a 92 W250 (3.54's) for about $700-800, just swap both in. Not sure if the rear is a LSD or not.

What are you all's thoughts? I'm leaning towards the D80 swap, mainly for the strength, as I run my pile pretty darn hard and the D80 its one stout sucker. The small pinion of the D70 is the only thing that concerns me.

If it was me I'd look into the used d60/d70. Just pull covers and make sure they are good. My old 90 runs 40 psi of boost and has been that way since 98. No problems with the ol 70.

Well, The Pile made it through the winter, but not without some issues, some stuff minor, one big one. The IP is rattling something fierce, not running smooth intermittently, and the idle moves around from the normal 900rpms, down to 600 and somewhere in between. At light engine loads, and higher rpms (1800-2000), the thing will belch bluish smoke and surge. I got the weekend off, so I know what I'll be doing. My VW has some brake issues, upon starting the brake pedal is normal, but after 30 seconds, it'll get hard as a rock. Not really safe to be driving...so its been parked for now.

Oh yeah...still haven't done anything with the D70

Thinking it is sucking air, or the return springs broken? Is it smoking while it is revving up, or all the time?

Clicking when rotated slowly. I pulled it off today, didn't get a chance to open it up, I wanted to get one of my spare pumps in, but I f'd that up too...I think I clipped a 4200 spring too short. I made it the same length as the stock spring I took out. Oh well, I'll throw a 3200 in it out of my old pump. I hope to have it running tomorrow afternoon...
