I might have a set of manual doors...actually I know I do but one sets on my truck and the other is on a parts cab but not sure what kind of shape either are in...one set is off an 86 and the other is off a 92. I'll look next time I'm down.

It really sucks. I probably won't replace it any time soon. I would rather sell my VW (wife and I fought about this since the baby is coming). I over extended myself again, but this time it will be a long hard climb out of the mess I am in. I regret buying it and dumping thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours into it, just to sell it 16 months after I brought it back home.

Life just sucks right now.

I'm sorry too man. It sucks to work so hard on something and have to get rid of it. It has to be the womans fault, us guys don't get into trouble like that! (don't tell her I said that, I don't wanna die!) ;)

Well gentlemen, I bit the bullet...and took a bail-out. The Pile is staying for a while. The wife talked me into letting her father help us out with a few things It kills me to take help, when I know I can dig myself out...but it would've taken me years to get back to square one. He's been offering to help for quite some time. I guess it's ok to have good people help out occasionally.

Well, got that HX40 on....nothing "super" about it....its a turd compared to the upgraded H1C. Going to try a bit of tuning to see if I can wake it up. Got the wastegate a few turns out, may have to bottom it and see how it goes.

Re: Big Red Pile 91 W350 Build Thread

Postby CumminsPower59 » Tue Sep 09, 2014 3:01 pm

Guess I left this thread in a little mess, so here is a little update.

Fixed all the picture links, so everyone can look at my mess of a rebuild

Really haven't messed with The Pile too much, still has the same old pump issue, but I have yet another pump I need to clean up and put on, and it's the same 114 pump too. Been driving it to work off and on, mainly when I have to pull overtime in the coal yard at the plant, since I look like a coal miner when I leave...trying to keep the VW halfway clean. I swapped out the worn 305/70 17 MT/R's for a set of 315/70 17 Duratracs, but when I can afford to, I need to swap tires again to something smaller, like 285/70's or 255/80's. 34.5" tires and 3.07's don't work the best, but they have some deep tread to get me through the winter. Still a lot of little odds and ends I need to fix, door panels that won't stay on, a radio that refuses to work, and that chipped pinion with worn bearings still need replaced. When I was using the truck to haul some demo materials from my old house, somehow I warped the front rotors, so they need replaced too. One day leaving the plant, one of my co-workers noticed that The Pile dog tracks pretty bad, about 4". Andrew (Pulltilbroke) mentioned the same thing when I had my 92 coming back from SOP 9. Common denominator? The Kelderman single bag. Apparently I put it on slightly off BOTH times, causing the rear suspension to shift enough that the axle was moved slightly...but enough that it would cause the truck to dog track. I removed the Klederman for now, and even though the axle is nearly where it should be, I forgot how rough these old beasts ride. No bigge. I will probably weld up the holes in the frame, grind them smooth and re-drill all the holes proper. I will probably pull the bed this time, so I can get the Kelderman sub-frame as close to square as I can get it. Since I was under the rear of the truck, I secured the loose tailpipe and fixed the broken rubber on the hanger. Exhaust is nice and tight. I am planning on pulling the entire exhaust off when I switch turbos again, and putting a chunk of flex pipe near the transfer case to allow some movement from the engine compared to the rigidity of the rest of the exhaust system. Hopefully it'll keep the rest of the exhaust from getting loose from the constant engine movement. Like just about everyone else, all the repairs I need to make hinge on money, so I can only get some stuff done a little at a time. Can't wait to get some more overtime, get some more repairs done and get a proper turbo put on this turd.

Enough rambling for now, I'll post some pictures that I took a while back...like last winter back
