I usually use stainless band clamps, only way to put exhaust together.

As for the dog tracking, multiple people have said it tracks to the right...Philip, Andrew, my brother, co-workers, etc. even standing behind it you can see the angle that the rear axle sits, the right tires are lined up perfectly, if you look down the left side, it splits the front tire in half. I'll try and get some pictures. I need to get some measurements too...

Shoot, I wish I had a few $100 bills...

That's odd! I wonder if the axle housing is bent? Philips front one was bent, he did it pulling a trailer out of a field I believe he said. Sometimes these trucks are like Bullwinkle, "don't know my own strength!"

My W250 has similar issues, leaves a 8" wide track in the snow on 6" wide tires driving in a "straight" line. I think the cause of my dog tracking is bent u bolts.

I am just going to have to drive the thing as it is for now since the car is kind of down. I got an idea for the exhaust though. I am going to fab up a bracket that bolts to the two threaded holes on the right side of the transfer case and clamp the pipe to it. That way it'll move with the engine/trans and not hit the floor or the cross member.

The Pile been "taken out of service". Puked the steering gear input seal last night, so with the laundry list of things to do and parts available, I said screw it, the thing is getting parked. Ordered a new seal for the steering gear input, it's a week out. I pulled the worn out drive shafts and took them in, $640+tax for the rear to be shortened an inch and new slip yoke and stub installed, whole new front shaft with 1410's on both ends, new 1410 greasable joints on both shafts, and new straps and bolts for both shafts. Both old shafts had junk slips and the front shaft was too short anyways. Once they are done, I'll spin the truck around and pull the rear axle out completely and get it in the garage and up on my tall jack stands and rebuild the diff properly, with new bearings, good used ring and pinion, rebuild the Power Loc, inspect the brakes and see if I can get the parking brakes to work, and slap some paint on it. Since I can't sell any of my good used tires, I'll mount up some of the BFG's on the forged 3rd gen wheels I got and get those out of round Duratrac's off. I still need to get new U bolts, rear shocks and check out the springs.

Wow, laundry list! Sometimes that's what you have to do. I've found if I start driving it, I never finish the stuff I want to do, I just drive it as is. I was going to put rear flaps and running boards and a few other things on my 97 after I painted it a year and a 1/2 ago, and they aren't done yet. ;)

Pete, that's kinda what happened when I built it.

More things to fix:

Replace the fuel filler neck.

Left front forward leaf spring mount has come loose from the frame again. Lock nuts didn't hold tight.

Reposition exhaust... again. Need to fabricate a better down pipe bracket and better hangers that won't twist apart. Install a two foot section of flex pipe after the transfer case.

Get an idea for what direction to go with for the rear suspension. I need to pull the springs and get them out and really look at them. I also want to get the Kelderman back on.

Redo the cab mounts/isolators. Cab is sagging a bit, need to get it back up in place. I bought some NOS upper front isolators, still need the rears. Maybe I will just use some big ol flat washers...

Cut some more material to finish mocking up the running boards I have. 7" wide safety plank/grating. Pretty grippy stuff.

Put full circle hose clamps on all the coolant lines. Reason? One, can't keep the heater core lines sealed up. Two, upgrade to stainless, full circle clamps.

Fabricate and replace the rear bumper. It's getting pretty rotted...

Put in the door jamb switches.

Repair drivers door window/lock switch.

Fix the dang odometer...

There is other stuff, but I got to find the list...

Me too bud! :(
I finished raking the yard and got the little diesel garden tractor running today and set the low idle. Now that I know it runs I'm more likely to keep going on it a little harder. Tons of stuff to do, no motivation and no time.

New front shaft and a rebuilt rear with new stub and slip. All Spicer parts. Also in there are the running board project I am working on...

Image

Went and made a mess too...

Bearings came off with ease, especially the larger pinion bearing, just clamping down with the bearing splitter moved it...

Started to set up the bearings, realized I didn't have a beam/dial type inch pound torque wrench to set the bearing preload...had one ordered in for pick up today, hopefully it'll work out. Preheating the bearings made installation so freakin easy, I slid the inner pinion bearing on, put a little heat on it and it slid the rest of the way home. Thanks Philip for the idea! I hope to make some good progress tonight, I want to get the thing back together tomorrow so I can get some room in the garage opened up so I can get my motorcycle ready for the season. Got a bunch of parts to hang on it...

Got the ring and pinion set up just right, perfect preload, wear pattern and backlash. I was going to go through the brakes since its out and on jack stands, but the old dog had to go to the vet and that was really spendy...so the thing's gonna sit for a while. I still need new shocks, U bolts and lift blocks...
