question about towing a crew cab home

Postby captmatthew1 » Tue Dec 03, 2013 7:19 am

im in a position to get a perfect candidate for a family cummins swap. however i am not in the position to tow it home. is there anyone along the I-5 corridor in Oregon that can tow something like this for me? or are there suggestions on getting it about 150 miles without killing my wallet? fuel is fine, but a tow truck + 150 miles never seems to work out for me financially

its a 85 CC W350 SRW Short Bed.

Rent a tow dolly from U-Haul, or a trailer. Just make sure it's wide enough between the fenders for the truck to go on. The other option is find a towbar and haul it that way.

i thought about a uhaul, but didnt think a crew cab would fit/be safe on a dolly...

It is ok if the dolly is big enough. After I posted I was thinking and remembered I wanted to rent 1 for a truck once and they said no because it was a truck. But then their trailers say "don't tow over 45mph" on them, so who can you believe? If it fits I think it would be safe enough, just check the tie downs a few times after you leave, and allow plenty of stopping room.

Ever think of a tow bar? I've used them several times with success...

Find a 20 ft trailer and just load it that way . Flat towing can be a pain if you don't know the truck very well
