Got the engine started after replacing the lift pump. Runs great, starts immediately, and has no blow-by. Pulled off the bent oil pan, straightened it and painted it. Then re-installed with new gasket. Did the KDP job and also re-sealed the vacuum pump to fix the engine's only leak. Did fuel heater delete. I really think the engine is in good condition.
Bought a Ford bus exhaust manifold to move the turbo back to the rear and tighter to the engine for the close confines of the van engine cover. Took the H1C turbo to Turbo Power to have them re-clock the turbo so the oil lines would be straight (I couldn't move it-even with heat). They said the turbo was in great shape. Over-all, things look pretty good.
Engine mods planned are 3200 or 3600 gov spring, BD Fuel pin, M&H timing spacer, and 60# valve springs. Any more suggestions?
Now I'm making plans and gathering parts for the swap. I decided to use a 5R110 transmission from a 6.0 Ford diesel with a PCS trans controller. Also have to decide what rear gear to use. It now has a 4.63 with 32" tall tires and I'm thinking a 3.73 or 4.10 would work fine with the 13,500# loaded weight. Any input on this would be good.
Still have more details to work out, but there is no hurry since the engine and trans in the bus runs fine.
