Been a little while since I've given an update.

Been slow going on the bed, lot of cutting and a lot of other "life" getting in the way. Have everything ready to make my two "BIG" cuts across the bed and slide the two halves together. Should be interesting. I have a couple pictures to put up but I'll wait until I get a little more progress.

Axle should be going back in before long too..

Are there different spider gears between a DRW and a SRW? axle spline differences etc.? Axle was supposed to be done today but the mechanic called and said as he is spinning the pinion gear the spider gears seem to be slipping on the axle splines. He test fit everything on the floor before he installed everything in the axle and everything seemed fine, but now that everything is in the axle and lined up perfectly and straight, the spiders are slipping on the axle splines.

History:
I took my carrier (ring gear, spiders etc.) from my SRW and installed into a DRW axle. The axle I bought was empty except for the axle shafts.

Quick Google search.. looks like SRW is 35 spine and DRW is 32 spline??? Anybody confirm that?

Ok definitely need the 32 spline spider gears. Anyone have a set they'd like to part with?

Negative. Earlier 70's were 35 until somewhere around late 90 when the switch to 32 splines was made. Easiest way to tell? If the shafts have cones and nuts for hardware, chances are they are 35 spline. Bolts, 32 spline. Both SRW and DRW varieties are like this. There are some oddballs out there, as for example of the rear axle in my 91. 3.07 gears, but 32 spline shafts, with a LSD. Most people have only seen 35 spline 3.07'd axles.

Well there you have it. Lol. Yep definitely had 35. Definitely needed the 32. Levi is has the 32 spline spiders so I should be good to go.

So I brought the axle home last night complete with the new spider gears I got from Levi. Everything worked out good with that. So tonight's project is to throw the axle back under the truck and get started hooking everything else back up.

Good deal, have you made any more progress on the bed?

Not really.. Everything is still ready to go on the big cuts, but I have been waiting to get the axle back in the truck so I can pull it out of the garage and gain some floor space to move around a bit. probably drag the bed more towards the middle of the garage then instead of jammed up against the wall.

I had big plans for it over the 3 day holiday weekend but that obviously didn't happen  .. See above posts.. HAHA.. Between parts running and all the holiday plans.. no time for any real work.

I drove clear to Cambridge to deliver a 3rd member to you and won't get a set of bumpstops for Hiney out of my backyard.

That's almost enough to make me feel bad.

Well we got the axle in last night. Just need to top off the diff fluid and put brake lines on and install the new shocks.

Also got the new part that needs welded on back for the lights and such. Here's it test fitting on the bed.

Got a bunch done on the bed over the weekend. Should be doing the last of the cutting tonight or Thursday night. Then Friday night I have a buddy coming to help me weld all the pieces back together..

Tell you what that Harbor Freight cheap saw worked amazing for cutting the 1/8" diamond plate aluminum. The two 7' cuts took about a minute and a half each. And they stayed nice and straight. Only complaint I have is that there is no guide plate like a normal circular saw. So you have to watch the blade to make sure you are staying on your line. Complete retroactive rather than proactive. Kinda sucks. But take your time and stop to get back on your line every now and then and it works great. The ability to plunge cut was the biggest advantage!
