1991 RCLB Restoration

Postby Ghostman » Wed Jan 21, 2015 1:59 pm

Hey guys, restoring a 1991 non-IC RCLB for my dads friend. He wants it back to oem quality. He has kind of given me the reins with this and doesn't really have much of a limit on the budget so it should turn out pretty nice. I'm upload some photos here soon and show the progress.

Pretty much been a beat up farm truck with lots of Aggie Engineering done to it lol.

Hood off and you can see how bad the rust on the roof is. Found a donor cab in much better shape.

Taking the bed off. Going to end up building him a nice flat bed with some wooden touches to make it seem more old timey.

My Dad giving me a hand pulling the fenders off.

Here a picture of both cabs. I'm going to strip them both down and haul them in to a body shop for a complete makeover. Along with the other panels. They want it two-tone, Aggie Maroon and white.

And here's where I'm at so far. Going to completely get frame stripped down and haul it in for blast and paint.

I thought you were from Indiana, but that can't be. That truck has rockers

Glad to see one being taken care of.

Besides the roof the rest of that cab is still decent. Between the two cabs I have, hopefully one can be made and made well.

Just placed an order with waytek wire for a bunch of weatherpack connectors to clean up the wiring mess under the hood.

Seems the A/C parts for these 1st gens are really high. Anyone ever converted to a 2nd gen A/C system or a partial conversion?

If you convert to the later 91.5-93 A/C system, parts a little less expensive. Remember, you are working on an early 91, everything on the early 91's is kinda oddball/unique.

Ah, I didn't even think about that or that there was a difference in A/C system. I'll try to figure out which system it has, but it will need all new A/C components I know for sure. Thanks for insight.

Picking up a stock 3rd gen intercooler tomorrow and going to shorten it to fit.

Does the 2nd gen 24v vacuum/power steering pump combo fit in the first gens? It just seems like it would be really close to the engine mount.

Got te intercooler for $100 and 3.75 hr round trip. Looks pretty good. It will have to be shortened but I think it will end up fitting pretty good once im done.

How would you shorten it without compromising its ability to hold pressure?

Ducati, it's easy. Just cut off the section you see sticking past the radiator in the last pic. You cut the tanks, remove that section with the cores and then weld a plate on each tank to seal the hole. ;)

Exactly what PToombs said pretty much. I saved some rubber feet off some old radiators too.
