I have been trying to think of how to do an alternate Tach transmitter scheme-
I keep thinking about mounting a small steel sprocket in the the front of the serpentine idler pulley.
I am thinking that since the surface of the belt is going the same linear speed everywhere - If I can determine the teeth per second that the harmonic balancer type gives- which should be the same teeth per inch of sprocket circumference-
I should be able to replicate that with any diameter of sprocket (might have to make a sprocket to get it just right)
Then I should have the pick-up where I can get at it better in stead of crammed in a tiny crack between the harmonic balancer and the radiator shroud. Anyone tried this ?
Anyone know how the sensor pulse frequency corresponds to read engine RPM ? I guess I could feed it square waves from a
pulse generator and tell that way. I assume it is a hall probe..... have to remember how those work internally to guess what
voltage and current it is looking for .......
Anyone tried to make a better mouse trap ?
Cant see paying 400$ for the "store-bought" rig to do this .........
