So I came upon a real deal with a 1951 GMC pickup. I was on it's way being restored and the owner lost interest. It is riding on a 1971 Chevy 1/2 ton chassis. Came with a couple of 4-bolt 350's and a freshly rebuilt 700R4.
I was wondering what anyone thinks about doing this. I understand that the 6bt is significantly heavier than the original I-6, but they are roughly the same dimensions.
My reasons for using a 6BT is that I would basically be butchering my d-250 for the powertrain and I wouldn't have to buy a new engine. But I would swap in a 5-speed manual.
Do you think I would be better off with a 4BT?
I want it to be diesel powered.
