Is it worth it?

Postby meby » Mon Jul 27, 2009 8:29 am

Hi fellas.

I found a first gen 4x4 with an auto trans and 134,000 miles for $1750.00 The frame is tweaked a bit and the body is wrecked. I don't think there is a clean panel on the truck. Perfect for my swap.

I was hoping to find one for cheaper, but it has really low miles.

Is it worth the price?

-Old Huskee Garden Tractor w/Cub Cadet deck, Simplicity Snow-blower, loaded tires & chains - is it weird the tractor is modded more than my truck?

Keep in mind, low miles= fuel system work. At least that has been my experience.

I wouldnt buy it for the engine at that price, but if it has 3.07s and they are in good shape, you can almost get your money back out of them.

For a transplant in to your 75? If it has all the things you need I guess its ok. Both of my 1st gens have less then that for milage and I have not had any issues with the fuel system. Lucky maybe?

Yeh, it would be for my 75'. Instead of transplanting the motor, trans, etc, I would be taking off the 75's body and putting in the diesels chassis. :D

Its a 4x4, so probably no 3:07s.

I think it's worth it, even with the wrecked body. Around here, the engine is worth 12-1500, and you have all the parts you need to convert it.

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.

Generally trucks that just sit for a long time will have problems. My brothers '97 sat for a while before he bought it, and blew a head gasket at right near stock rwhp levels. He thought it was because it sat for a long time...

Ah, maybe seeds of urban myths? Farm equipment with Cummins B series engines sometimes sets for a year or two and comes to life without any destructive results.

My 89 sat for 3 years in my cellar. Started right up Like I had just shut it off. My 93 I bought had sat outside for 2 years with out starting at the previous owner's. Threw a charger on it and fired right up. I know its not good for them to sit for so long but it happens.
