4 doors - let's build one more...

Postby draginmopars » Thu Jan 20, 2011 9:08 pm

we just got a 92 club cab with 618 going in a 74 car hauler.

should we cut the cab at the "A" post and mid floor or
cut out the fire wall and patch in?

also, should we cut the frame and keep the 92 front-end or swap it to the 74 frame?

at the rear I think, we will need a diesel rear vs the gas rear that is there now?
found a 3.55, would that be the gear needed with the OD?
was looking at it cause it has the anti-lock hook-up
any ideas?
thanks

Nice Max wedge manifolds...they look right at home in a big ole truck.

Whats the story behind the O.D trans on the big block? Is there an adapter involved or did something get machined?

I would cut the firewall and piece in the section you need. I'm not sure how different the 74 is from the 92. I put an 86 cab on my 92, and just cut out the clutch area of the firewall. (86 was auto and 92 a 5 speed) The bulkhead plug was right where the clutch master came thru. I just cut about a 1' x1' piece from the 92 and fitted it in. Tied in the steering column brace too, I put the seam right on it so I could weld it together.

Do yourself a favor and leave the ABS on the donor truck. Most of the time it doesn't work correctly and causes a spongy brake pedal.

got a little time to work on it.
think i,m going to section the rad support for the 73 head lights/ turn signals
instead of moving the brackets for the rad, i/c, and a/c..

also gonna use the p/w,and door locks,

our next plans are
pyro and boost guages
trans temp
tighter torque convertor
freshen trans
replace crank seals/ pan gasket
adjust valves, bump the timing
have a leak at the p/s pump need fixed
replace all hoses and belt
core plugs
is there a part # for the elbow water hoses?
Do I really need a tach.
What else need done, while eng and trans are out.
thanks

Check the KDP and tab that, and remove, clean, loctite the case to block bolts. Easier to do on the stand than in the truck. ;)

what have I gotten myself into lol
got the donor, stripped down to the last wire harness
and cross members,fuel lines
gonna get rid of the in cab fuel tank.
the OD trans cross member is different from the gas engine and the turbo exhaust pipe won,t clear
needs to move back again for the diesel
