which injectors?

Postby dunes450r » Thu Nov 15, 2012 10:53 am

i currently have PODs, but would like to replace them with some DAP injectors to get rid of some haze, and hopefully pick up an mpg or two. i'm debating between 5x12, 5x14, and 7x10. currently have no real mods other than the typical easy pump mods, 366 spring etc. i have a piston lp that will be going on soon, along with a second gen IC. a 60mm wheel, or other turbo upgrade is in the plan too.
this is a dd, occasional tow rig. i don't pull, or race.

opinions?
thanks!

^yup.

Maybe 5x14's if you plan on ever feeling the need for it to have a wild side. Have you advanced your pump very much? The PODs have a high pop pressure and a hellaciously wide spray angle. maybe some messing about with your timing could bring the haze down some.

the haze is only bad when the engine isn't up to operating temp. i bumped my timing within an 1/8" of the head once, but that actually made my hazing worse, then when i went back to my original timing the haze was a little better, but still hazed more than before i messed with timing.......

I bought some 5x14s from dap. They run hot with stock turbo if you crank up the pump. Mine always hazed a little even while cruising so I advanced the pump as far as I could with out jumping a tooth, it helped a little. Then I made a 3" intake elbow and that helped even more and dropped about 50* cruise egt. I just had some pump problems so I had the injectors checked and they're opening about 500 psi too low. Now with them right it might clean up more. I did lose 1-2 MPG from the 5x10s I previously had in it. If I did it all over again I would go with 5x12s or smaller unless you really want to get crazy with the power.

I was running some 6x11's and they worked pretty good for me. I had maxed pump, and a 60mm gds upgrade and there was a light gray haze at full tilt. No haze at idle, and still got 19.92 mpg coming back from SOP. I towed with the truck when needed, the egt's never got crazy either.
