but what clutch, if any could I get that is not specific to a G360? I dont feel like ruining an expensive clutch or flywheel if I shear a input off the Rag.

isnt the rag input the same as the small input of an NV? hence if I ever swapped the NV would still be the weak link? Around my area I dont think I could get an nv swap for under 3G$, at that point I could buy a core 47rh and built that to the hilt and be able to actually hit the drag strip with the truck, a goal I'm kind of warming up to.

honestly... besides going to built internals on the d60/d80, after a trans swap this truck would be damn near bullet proof, do a clocked 271 and its the same drivetrain as a secondgen...kinda

Eventually, my goal has always been to drop this whole drivetrain into a nice 1stgen truck, but who knows.

I still want to hit 500 horse on a 12mm VE, It was my goal for this summer, but there is no way the clutch will hold that now, I dont have the money to play around with another clutch for the Rag, if Im going to buy a nice clutch, its going to go infront of a trans that can hold big power

You would be better off with a built 47RH.

You can have the getrag survive. Someone on here posted how they got the 1-3/8" input in the Getrag.

What is really you weak point is the rear gears (4.88's needed to pull a lot) or your transfer gearing.

If you want, I can find the link to Cole Dow flipping a 241DHD (271 maybe) for a passenger drop front axle in the 1st Gens. Modified the oil pickup tube and oil fill bolt. That would be ideal AND allow you to keep the Getrag.

And yes, we have the same 1-1/4" input as the NVs.

I'm going to play the part it out game, and look for another 1stgen to start over with, and build a ve motor in the mean time. I just cant justify throwing a 5000$ RH into a truck with no floors...

My fittings were pricey, IIRC I spent around $60 for fittings, and only had 4 of them, so I understand.
Maybe they were telling you to pull 3rd so you would smoke something. WTH, some scumbag unlocked Jons hubs on him, so I'll believe people will do just about anything to win.
If you buy a clutch, then swap trannies, all you need is a new disc/discs made. You could sell the old ones easy to get some money back. ;)

Just think of how easy that'll make it to get to those top bellhousing bolts, Alex. ;)

I would think you'd probably be better off looking for a gasser body from down south and just swapping it on. With all the stuff you've done to your frame, engine, and trans stuff, it'd be a shame to have to try to swap all that into another truck.

And Pete, I never had luck using the push in fittings on the suction side of a system. They work fine on the pressure side, but I always had air problems using them anywhere else.

honestly, I'm thinking of finding a good second gen frame, and swapping a 1stgen body on to it, hence why im not really concerned about selling half the stuff I've got, yea, lots of it are upgrades for 1stgen trucks, but its standard stuff on later trucks.

I've been pondering parting the truck out for a while, sucks that I did not hit my 500 hp goal this summer, but at the same point, the cab mounts are sagging and the passenger door will barely open, the truck was scrap when I got it, and I got every last bit of fun out of it, thats for sure

She has had a good run, but I think its finally Time to put her out to pasture... going to keep the cab out back as just an ugly reminder of the truck.

I'll be hanging around, I doubt I will be 1stgenless for more than a few months

I would think you'd probably be better off looking for a gasser body from down south

my buddy in SC allready has a few leads, one shortbed that he knows he can get for under 400$, dented but no rust

the cause of it all....

Image

looks like the pilot bearing died and took out the clutch, Ive called southbend and since its past a year since I bought it all they could possibly do is cut me a deal on the disk... kind of BS considering it was THEIR FAULT that they used some chinese knock-off bearing and thats what killed the whole clutch, other side looks fine.

anyways, if anyone wants to buy the clutch, 100$ takes it as is, needs to be resurfaced and the disk can be purchased at a discount from southbend, im sure they will throw the bearing in for free.

anyways... much easier pulling the clutch when you sawzall the frame into 3 pieces

Well that sucks, I was really looking forward to hearing about how those injectors worked for you. When I got my SDX 5x18's last year it took over 3 months to get them, and I only gained 5-6 psi of boost over the 4x13's. It did run nice though, good power, would have liked to have checked hole size to see if they were really 5x18's. Maybe I was sold 5x14's, who knows. Hope you stick with the VE, a P pump is probably going to require even more money for supporting mods once it starts making big power, and probably wont spool that 63 as well as a VE. Either way, good luck.

you would if you saw the condition that it was in.

we need to remember here that this truck was destined for the scrap yard 4 years ago when I bought it, i milked ever cent out of it, the frame mounts for the cab are all completly rotted through, I didnt even need to unbolt the cab when I lifted it off.

plan had always been to get to 500 then start fresh, The clutch was NOT planned to go, I assumed that if I was easy on it it would hold 500... probably would have if it the pilot bearing stayed together. trans was the weakest link in the whole truck, and I knew at some point I would need to upgrade. But, there is just no way I can justify throwing more money in a truck that was this bad.

this was inevitable, and I would feel better about it if I had hit my goal with the 12mm pump, but the stars were not aligned. its not that I have given up, I just need to be sensible right now
