Ok, so I took it for a road trip (400 miles total) yesterday to pick up a new scooter. So, I was towing 500ish pounds in 95* heat. I think I had the wastegate set to open too soon as I was getting 900* EGT's and like 1100* at 11 psi of boost (when going like 75-80) plus it was smoking pretty bad when passing, etc. annnd I got maybe 14 mpg for the trip. My gosh darn Mallory FPR leaks though.

I am also having issues with ATF temperature as I am not running the F2F heat exchanger right now. I was seeing 195-220 fluid temps in the pan, with the cooler fan running all the time.

Truck is getting the 23 cm housing put on this week, hopefully there are no problems there.

OK, 23 cm housing is on now. I don't know how or why, but I think the wastegate adjustment got reset to where it wastegates at 45 psi. That's how it seemed when I took it for a test drive today. Time to mess with that again.

OK, so I was looking at the flow numbers I got from KTA when he benched my pump and decided it was way overfueling in the low and midrange (280 cc's from 1000 to 1750 rpms). So, I went back to a stock fuel pin. It has helped immensely in the 0-70 mph acceleration and cruising around and smoke is way down. Go figure, right?

However, I have lost some top end though, as boost is at about 42 lbs right now, so I am going to bump up the full power screw when the truck is cooled off and lengthen the wastegate shaft one more turn and see where that gets me. If that helps, I am going to leave it alone until I can get a dual pressure boost guage so I can see how much boost the primary is making. I am also considering moving down to some DAP 5 x 13's, but that is a last resort.

I am also going to see if I can snag my brothers 7500 lb travel trailer and lug that around tomorrow.

I ended up extending the wastegate shaft a turn and a half but borught it back to where it was. I could hear the HT3B trying to spool up driving around in town with not much throttle, so I figured that was too soon.

I turned in the full power screw a turn and picked up 6 psi, so it's at 48 psi. I'm thinking it's about as good as I can get it for now. I am going to loosen up th star wheel maybe 2 turns, since I had to have it way tight for the Denny T fuel pin.

Then I am going to wait until I get the boost guage put in until I mess with it again.

OK, all I did today was go a half turn up on the smoke screw. Now, I am going to learn how to get the shifting where it should be, as it shifts way too early. However, if I leave it in 2, it gets up to 45 really nice with not too much smoke, good enough to hold my own in town against a random diesel ricer, if need be. Idle needs to be adjusted down a bit. ..and I think I am going to join the pull cable club as well.

Oh well, I am thinking of ditching that idea anyways and just measuring the primary boost until I can get it right, then just having one boost guage. This problem is minor.

I am trying to formulate a plan on what to do about my trans temp problems. Probably going to have the F2F cooler reinstalled and keep the dinky Flex-A-Lite cooler in place.

Completely random one I found on Ebay. These are in pretty much all semis that don't have their air gauge built into the cluster. If you know of a junkyard with even one truck in it you could get one for dirt cheap. Grab some push-loc fittings and truck air line at a truck store and I'd assume you'd have less than $50 in the whole deal.

Actually, here's the whole search on dual needle gauges on there. If you're looking for a throwaway gauge I'd just get the cheapest one.

E-bay search

I came across this a while ago.

I saw that the "Genuine Cummins" thermostat opens at 180*, so according to that table the heat exchanger may do some good. Dang it, I may have to hook it back up

Yeah, I am going to concentrate on getting the F2F put back in. I dont think a bigger air cooler will help and the one I have is already hooked up anyways.

Ya,but is it big enough? Is it constructed of fin and tube or plate style? theres a huge difference between the two.
