that green is actually a nice color on an engine, i was gona suggest that. when we had the Mog' apart the engine was painted that, but its an actual mercedes color. looks really nice.

I still vote for cummins beige tho...

If I ever have an engine thats fully built and ready to go in, im going to paint every single bit of it cummins beige, just like they do from factory, even if its got twins and fancy polished stuff... it would definently throw people off

Now that you mention it our Volvo semi at work has an engine almost that color. It's not a DD, but it might actually be a Mercedes...

That Mopar blue is a lighter shade than I was thinking of. I do remember that though. wow! That AMC blue is pretty hideous!

Just to update, It's gotten 2 rounds with the steam genny so far and will probably get one more tomorrow. I've got a body-guy buddy mixing me up a quart of that Detroit Green and it'll be on the engine and any piping I get cleaned up enough to spray.

I've been soaking this thing with purple power and wire brushes but there's still some spots where the crud is just too hard to get to. I'll be going all out on it after work tomorrow., tooth brushes and all, and hope to have it painted by this weekend sometime. That all depends on my buddy though, and we all know how body guys are about schedules.

Buy a couple cans of high heat paint and shoot it all with that first as a base coat. It will help the other paint last longer.

Got something else done, since me engine is elsewhere at this time. My intank inlet lines. 1/2" ID throughout, except the bypass valve which is the first thing in line. It's .040 under 1/2", so I'm going to let it slide.

Image

Where the inlet/bypass valve will be residing, right beside the hole that lets fuel into the bowl-thing.

Image

I've got 1/2" air line going to my LP, then I haven't decided what to do with the outlet of it. I'd like to keep it at 3/8 ID, but I'm going to have to look around on ways to do it. The factory outlet line is some kind of flared setup, with an ID of 1/4". I don't really want to clamp a hose on it if I don't have to, since that'd leave me with a 1/4" restriction no matter how big it got from there. :/

Just to edit, the HPLP outlet threads are M14x1.5 and the VE inlet threads are M12x1.5 o-ring. Dunno if I'm going to make something myself or what yet... I know I want to keep the ID as big as I can.

Spent the weekend making the old lady help me toothbrush my engine clean. Got the paint sitting on my kitchen counter waiting to be sprayed.

Called the fellow getting my headwork done and he said it would be another 2 weeks. Guess all this thrashing was for nothing, but I'm glad to know I'll be bolting it all together for the last time pretty soon.

I miss my truck.

Routed the intake piping tonight, going to take it to work and weld it up sometime this week. I've got to run it over my upper radiator hose, which makes things extremely tight.

Does anyone have a pic of Cole Dow's underhood? I've got it in a DP somewhere, but who knows where those things end up. I realize his isn't ran exactly like mine, but it's either really close to the hood or it routes under the hose and comes up to meet the inlet. Or he has an IC'd radiator and his hoses are different and he's able to do it.

I've been searching Google and CompD for a while now with no luck either...

Thanks. 8)

Looks like that IC'd setup is a lot easier to work around than mine is. My 3" pipe will fit, but it ain't gonna look nearly that cool.

Well, on a non IC'd truck the upper hose would go right through the center of his pipe. It comes out right above the alternator and 90*s into the radiator beside that cap.

I had my radiator out so I could stick my head in there while the hood was shut and I can just barely get a finger between my pipe and the closed hood.

Now account for the torques and you will just have to get a SRT10 hood, oh darn!

Get some pipe that fits into the hose, weld a bead on them, get some radiator hose, cut and piece one together.
