Hey BC, i saw your Scheid 6x16s in your post and was wondering how you like them. I am running DAP 5x14s and was thinking about a set of 5x18s or 6x16s from Scheid, but have been looking for someone running a set before shelling out the cash.

There are longer guide pins...

I've seen a low speed VE with a profile on the pin like a performance pin, not the cone style found in trucks.

getting off topic...... BUT, I have the l ongest guide pin that you can get from bosch..... still can get full travel from a custom stock pin and still slides passed the o ring with the denny pins.

I don't think David has mentioned fuel in the AFC housing and you can clearly see that the pin has been using the full ramp.

Is whatever the pin controls capable of moving that far? That's the question.

I know my truck never had an AFC leak until I did some grinding on the stock ramp. I also know that if I put my truck to full throttle with the engine off, the pin doesn't go out past 1/2 bore. Does that prove anything? Probably not, since I haven't ever been inside one of these pumps, but it seems 1/2 bore is all that the mechanical portion of the pump is willing to move it. I assume the rest of the travel would be caused by case pressure pushing out on the pin and nothing mechanical having more travel while running. :?

Dan, IIRC, I've only owned stock, PDR "190"s, some older DDP4s, and these 6x.016s. They work OK I guess.

I can't really say I'm experienced with enough different types to know if these 16's blow and I'm too dumb to know it.

On my pump the pin was riding the full ramp even though the afc lever wasn't moving that far..... The internal case pressure pushes the slide pin as far as it can go... until it hits the fuel pin.

However there are minor machining differences in each pump, meaning some will slide passed the o ring while others may not with the same pin. However the afc lever itself can only move so far.

It looks like the maximum amount of controllable fuel would be gained by grinding the foot off the AFC, then using the longer fuel pin to put it back to stock position at low boost.

That may be a scenario where the deeper-cut aftermarket would be beneficial and actually allow more travel.

Well I drink too much to remember, so shut up and let me revel in my discovery. :P

Actually, where were you with this enlightenment a page ago? There's been plenty of AFC speculation on here recently and I've never heard a peep from anyone about that. :?:
