Head Options?

Postby Begle1 » Mon Oct 08, 2007 11:26 am

I don't know the answer, altough I should.

What are the options for a new head? Would a 94-98.5 work? What is required to make a 24 valve head work?

Any 12V head will bolt on
A 24V would be a rather involved swap requirring alot of custom parts.

More custom parts than a cam, right?

I know that they changed heads for the better between 93 and 94, did they ever change the heads between that?

The 24valve would require new fuel lines in addition to cam and some other goodies im too tired to remember right now. 91.5-98 12 v heads are essentially the same.

Pistons need to be added to the list! It would be easier and much cheaper to swap your injection parts onto a 24v engine!

Yeah, I think I'll just be snooping around at 12 valve heads.

I'm thinking that if I wanted to keep my 9mm head, by the time I got it stitched, O-ringed, resurfaced and valve job'd it'd be as much as a brand new $700 head off of eBay. I think that the new valves are hardened too. And I wouldn't need to spend $50 on valve springs that way. I knew I was procrastinating on valve springs for a reason.

Only downside is that I wouldn't get to keep the 9mm injectors; but nobody's ever played around with custom 9mm injectors, and I don't have enough money to be the guniea pig no matter the added potential.

And I wouldn't have any downtime with a new head.

How much is O-ringing? I've heard the $400 quote thrown around before, but doesn't that include a resurfacing that you wouldn't need to do on a new head?

I believe PDR shows it as $150 in the price list. Thats just the oringing listed though, I do not know if the resufacing is included? There is a seller on ebay called redlinear and he has great used parts. I've bought a bunch of stuff from him. I seen a 96 head on there that goes over here soon and it was only at $84 but the frieght kinda stinks.

"PDR"'s feedback?

Piers Diesel Research is a big-name brick and mortar operation. Do they have an eBay presence, or did somebody else steal the name?

That would make sense, now that you mention it.

admin - i was not saying that the guy sold bunk parts per say, was just saying that after reading his feedback it sounds like he is good at communication, until he has gotten his cash. but for the buyers that had a problem with their item - it sounds like he does not respond. dunno, i have a two day old question to him right now, and the action is getting close to end. never feel real comfortable when i see feedback like that. one or two red is no biggie to me, hell i have one!, but that guy has a lot.

i got mine from a guy that had 6 transactions - he had bought 3 items and sold 3. it was a 20 dollar part and i was the buyer! afterwards i checked what he left for the others and found out that 50% of his feedback left WAS NEGATIVE!

there are all sorts of weirdos on that site...(kinda reminds me of this site)

lol
