4mm camplate only?

Postby bgilbert » Fri Sep 28, 2012 9:08 am

So what's the word on just running a 4mm camplate only? With a 12mm pump? I don't know if I've read anyone doing that. I'm far from building 14mm pumps, twins and 500hp anymore. Those days are gone, I'm just looking for a little more towing horsepower... Maybe continue trying to do something different..? My tow rig, the crew cab is mostly stock. Stock nonIC injectors and old school pdr hx35/40-18. I've got the injection pump tore down right now for a complete reseal. I've got solid cam rollers and high rpm plunger return springs to put in it. Thinking about a different cam? It's a 114 pump btw. Maybe I should measure this one.. Thoughts?

Ugh, found this on Rocken Tech's site:
Note: The high lift 4mm camplate is not designed just for replacing the
stock type (2.8mm); neither is it designed for use with our 14mm rotor
head together without accommodations of the higher lift and excessive
fuel. To use together there could be timing and high RPM issues - please
make sure you have all the clearance and other accommodations to your
fuel system. The 14mm head itself can go up to any high speed as long
as your pump can sustain the rpm.

Hmmm.

I don't know about the 4mm, but do you have part numbers for the solid rollers and high rpm springs?

According whats posted above it sounds like they sell a part that cant be used. I wonder what modifications are needed to make it work?

Plunger return spring kit 1-467-010-410.
Solid cam roller kit 1-467-010-535.

I've got a few different VE pumps laying around. So far I've found two different camplate part numbers, a stock 114 nonIC pump stamped 440 (also found in a nonAFC industrial pump), and one from a 93 205 pump, which happened to also be found in another industrial pump I had laying around. IIRC it said 8995, I'll double check. My HF dial caliper says the 205's pump has a slightly larger lobe... Where is the 3.2 camplate found?

ok now i have another question...i just got off the phone with RockenTech. an i was inquiring about parts. anyhow, they have the 14mm H/R for $408.50. and then he was telling me about the 3.0 camplate they have for $135??? i understand the stock is a 12mm/2.8 setup. is there any gains to running this 3.0 camplate they offer?? honestly it seem spretty cheap to try out. but i also know people have had issues running the 14mm/4mm setup only why im inquiring. help a brother out..

I've heard there has to be some clearance grinding to fit a 4mm. I suspect you could run the 3mm by using a different sized camplate spacer.
'03 2500: utility body stock; '92 350 flatbed: maxed fuel, 354 spring, 6x.016's, 14mm H/R, 2.8plate, studs, springs, A1000 5/8 line, Super40 = 454hp 1080tq all fuel. Have added S3 66/74/.91, O-rings, home port job, Steedspeed t-4 manifold. Hp=437/857 :( 13mm P, 5x.025, he551+ht80 843hp 1thousand something trq. Broken 5th gear.

Ok.... So let's talk about other camplates as well?

From what I've read the 4mm cam interferes with the spill port or something.

But what about the 3 or 3.2? Why would a diff spacer need to be used?
