adding twins

Postby rythornton » Sun Oct 07, 2012 3:39 pm

So i have this 1993 D250 and im having problems with my EGT's get really hot. I was planning on putting twins on the truck for preformance and i heard that it would definitly keep the EGT's down. But were kinda on a budget so i was wondering if anybodys got so cool ideas for adding twins without having to

break the bank.

If you have welding skills, it can be done. A primary is usually an S400, HT3B, or HX50-55 with the stock turbo on top. All those turbos were stock on something at some point, therefore not that expensive relatively

if you are able to do all fab work yourself it could can be done for about the same price as a new single turbo ($1000-$1200).

There are several members on this site that have or have had twins on their truck. I know there is a thread on here about my twins build, as well as Tacoclaw's and Snoot's. There may be more that I can't remember. Those should give you an idea of layout, materials, price, etc.

I'm running a hx55. It may be a little small for my 6x16, but they cool really well for anything else it seems.
I believe John picked the turbo up for 500$. Which is quite a bit, but it was a quick buy thing. I've seen s475 turbos go for $650 or somewhere around that price. We picked up weldable 1/4" wall 3" pipe in various bends to make our hot pipe. And we used exhaust for the cold piping. 1000$ is about what you should spend if you really try and use all new stuff. It's alot of fun as well we used a dead engine to mock everything up as well. It made it easier to access and fit everything. Another way I've seen it done is to remove the passenger fender.
