Postby cummins12club » Thu Oct 18, 2012 7:15 pm

I've pretty much finished up my compound build utelizing hx35 over ht3b started it for the first time tonight and walked around to check for leaks and noticed a slight leak around the hot pipe and then saw that my ht3b isn't spinning at all! I freaked out and sthi the truck down immediately it only ran for about 30 seconds all the oil feed and drain lines r fine what could be wrong? Only thing I did forget to forbid tighten up all the housing bolts on the front housing please help!

Can you spin it with your fingers when it's just chilling there? There's a chance the housing was binding up the compressor wheel or something like that. Not a big deal.

An HT3B was designed to be spun by exhaust gasses from an 855 ci engine, not a puny 359 ci engine  If it spins freely and there's no exhaust leaks, I say you're golden.

Please do share about how it runs 8) I like these old Holset set-ups

Backing it out of the garage should be a good enough break in.

Back when I bought a new HX35 hybrid from PDR, their instruction was to put 50 easy miles on it first. Then have at it.

Hx35 was low miles used one and the ht3b was brand new out of the box I drove it for just over 50 or so miles I still had the factory boots on the intake side of the intercooler and they have visible cracks in them I think I'm getting a bad boost leak from them first time I got on it I rolled onto the throttle and it pulled hard untill 45 psi and the just fell on its face I figured it has to be a boost leak the second time I tried it It blew the boot off between the top charger and intercooler pipe I ordered new boots for the intake side and I'm gunna have a tig weld put on the rim of the pre cooler pipe the other issue I'm having is I don't think I'm draining the chargers fast enough and oil is backing up in them I'm using stock size 7/8 drain hose w a T into stock drain port I'm gunna try and use 1/14 inside diameter line bc847 I believe u have a PDR kit and what do they do for drains?

Everyone has been saying separate drains I called PDR today and asked them how they drain their kits and they acted like some 12v has another oil drain provision about 12-18 inches back from the stock drain I need to look and see if mine has that they say some will not and u have to drill a hole in ur oil pan I know bc847 runs a PDR set up and I'm wondering if he had the 2nd provision or if he had to drill a hole in his oil pan and if so I wonder how he did it on the truck

Blocks with the extra drain provision are storm blocks and are 97.5+.

Best bet is to add another drain to the pan.

I added another drain to my pan. I did and now can't use that as an excuse. I put it as high as I could with the oil drained from the pan. I cleaned the pan of all paint and debris. I spot welded all the way around with a pulse mig on a low setting. I tried not to get the welds too hot, but made sure I got good penetration. No problems and no cracks. I pulled two of my valve covers off as well as my fill cap. I did this to relieve pressure if the heat on the inside somehow got worse than normal operation temp/ pressure. Im not claiming this to be the right way to do what I did. But it works and has lasted. There may be a safer alternative.
