I dropped my block off at my Dad's friend's place who builds HP diesel pulling tractor motors. He's giving me a heck of a deal and is a private business. He's planning to bore the block, hot tank and then cut O rings INTO the block. Several other things will be done as well (balancing, polishing etc)
I see a great benefit with O ringing my block rather than the head because the o rings will be PERFECT alignment with the bore with the setup he uses and since the gasket is located with the block rather than head, the o rings with the gasket rings will be centered. Should be able to hold quite a bit of boost this way.
Now,
I am running studs for the head but is it necessary for main and rod studs? I'm doing 4-500hp streetable P pumped. His opinion is if I need main studs, I'm building an engine that is overkill for the street. The bolts are grade 12.9. I'm leaning towards not upgrading main and rod bolts but what do you guys think? I'm looking for around 70psi with fly cut pistons and stock cam (for now). S300 turbo also.
