autometer tach

Postby ford69557ci » Sun Oct 28, 2007 6:55 pm

I have a 5" autometer pro comp tach and would like to use it on my 91. I have heard of adapters that convert alt signal to a tach signal? I fthere is such a thing where would one be bought and if there is no such thing how could I make this tach work??

oh, and let me know how it works. I thought about whitefaced gauges for my next truck, and a gasser tach is about the only way to get one in white.

now that you mention it i did see the sw tach in summit. i have been meaning to call them to see how it picks up a signal. iirc it still reads to 6k...and i already have a white 3.5" autometer tach that reads to 8k. if im gonna use a tach that has more range than i can use i figured id use the one i already own.

I don't know if it is in all trucks or just some of the later ones but there is saposedable a tach feed wire in the dash somewhere that you can tap into for a tach. I don't remeber where I read about it but it was in one of these forums. I have found the diagram in my alldata but have not had time to try and track it down under the dash. Autometer makes a tach for diesels to run off the alt also. I don't know the part number of the top of my head but if someone wants it I can look it up.

The prob with the autometer diesel tach is they have no shift light and the large face tach requires making a reluctor ring to mount on the balancer and still offers no shift light.

So what you're saying is you don't know when to shift?
