Injector advice

Postby The Big Indian » Tue Sep 10, 2013 11:10 am

93 W250 I/C with auto trans. 220,000mi. Stage 2 pin, 366 spring, and pump tuning. No pump timing yet but I plan to do that soon. BHAF. 2nd Gen IC horn. Currently only smokes on immediate startup and at WOT. Tranny has been rebuilt "a while ago" and a new torque converter was put on it at that time. I would rebuilt / beef up the trans again when needed. Currently getting about 15-16mpg at 65mph with no additional weight. 285 75 16 tires.

Looking for more torque/HP. Mostly for hauling my pickup box slide-in camper or my 4 ton smoker. And I just want more HP for the fun of it. Have an HE351CW and cateye 4" exhaust from the turbo back on the way (not on the truck yet). This is the setup and I would like to replace my stock injectors. I was thinking maybe the DAP 5x12 or 5x13. Looking for the same amt of smoke I have now. Am I on the right track with either one of these injectors?

You're not going to keep the same or less smoke going to those, I'm sure with proper tuning the 5x12s would be fine, just watch the pyro, you do have a pyro, right? Check out the 5x12 vs 7x10 thread in this section, if you're not going for all out Power and need clean towing sounds like their pretty sweet.

Interesting read. Definitely subscribing. I've been reading up on RC's older posts on one of the other sites regarding injectors and many hole injectors were once said to be taboo. Glad to see more research on this subject.

I'm even now considering flow honing my stock sticks instead.

I loved my 7x10s for work, they even cooled down the peak egts pulling for me. I wound up fooling around with rc on flowing some ppump 5x10 nozzles to fit on some 1stgen bodies, they're ok but lack the torque the others produced.
This is all seat-o-pants too

Keep in mind Ellis that those injectors we went with were to mainly decrease your hazing issue you had.........we later found out that your timing was GROSSLY over advanced.

5x10 are a lot smaller than 7x10

I feel I shouldn't be putting this yet....as there may be an underlying cause.......but today, my truck was hazing HORRIBLY as well.

Back to the op........

I'd still recommend a 5x11 SAC nozzle for the best cleanliness and drivability with the he351cw.

After putting on 250 miles on my truck today...... I'm having issues with certain driving situations.

Mainly at higher altitudes at idle.......these 7x10s are puking at idle. way more than the 5x12s did. Isn't clear to me though on why yet.

The pump was advanced, but the nozzle length was way short on them, and I had thick sealing washers on them. They weren't spraying in the bowls like that, not like they should have. Least that's what I thought.
How much timing have you got on those now?

I posted in the other thread about it.......but the timing is the first thing I'm going to check. As I'm running a LOT of timing.

For the record..............

I will be adding 7 hole injectors to my site. They definitely have their place and are now an injector that I will recommend in certain situations.

This hazing issue I have, I am not blaming on the injectors being a 7 hole...............
