A 12 valve head, heavily ported, can make move more air in the upper rpm (it is actually more of the strength of the head in the high rpms)............but a ve is not a high rpm engine. The 24 valve heads are more efficient in the lower rpm than a 12 valve head.
Now in saying that.......guys are making HUGE power in CR heads. A 24 valve head is not a down grade, at the upper levels.
I set this entire engine up to match a ve's fueling curve. A very strong low to mid range cam that is still efficient to 3500ish rpm. a 24 valve head is stronger in the lower range (porting actually can hinder low end, and a 24 valve head out flows a stock 12 valve head, all while being more efficient in the low to mid range). Also with a 24 valve head, I can utilize a high quality 7 hole injector design (better low end tq). However, we may end up trying the 6 hole sac. Also raised the compression to help burn the low end fuel as well.
The one thing I feel I screwed up on.........I shouldn't of used a HO piston. It probably won't hurt that much, but we should of went with a much wider bowl design.
