A more in depth update......... me personally, am about a second away from sending my old 92 block off to far away, country known machine shops and then myself building it.
To this 89 block........... my engine builder has built hundreds of engines in his life, that work just fine, many are competition engines. We have had the entire engine spec'd out by 2 machine shops. This was after the first time when the wrist pins were having issues. No one could find anything at the time....... so we decided to replace the bushings and do it again.
This noise is different. My point in all of this is.......if something is wrong again, 2 machine shops and 1 builder have no idea why.
But i will say this "tick" turns into a knock when the engine is hot enough....something is definitely wrong somewhere. But it doesn't have that rotating assembly rpm type thing. Where when you load/unload it it gets "loose", it doesn't have that. It is just like something is hitting something. And it is not a valve.
However........ I was told by Hamilton that some early trucks, the rod caps can hit the cam lobes. Supposedly (at least some) early "industrial engines" had wider rod caps on them. Ryan said some flat out smack, other may miss by a thousands or two.
Maybe that is it......... if it is barely clearing, and when it warms up is smacking it.... hitting the rod cap would also tq the rod sidways, which could also grab the wrist pin if hard enough. That's my only lead to a potential cause. It may not be it..........but ?
