H2E compound turbo set up??

Postby Dualtire90 » Sun Feb 10, 2019 12:06 am

I was recently given a Cummins H2E turbo that came off of a '92 L10 Mechanical. Since I have it laying around I've been looking in to the idea of using it in a compound turbo set up but I haven't been able to find much info on it. I know they come with different turbine housing sizes between 17 and 22cm and I've heard of a few guys making HX40 hybrid turbos out of them but that's about it. I can't find any turbo maps for them so I really don't know what I'm working with. My end goal is 550-600 hp but I'm in the early planning stages so specific fueling and engine modifications are up in the air at this point. My main concern at this stage is rather or not the turbo is worth hanging on to or if I should just sell it. Any info would be appreciated.

Thank you very much. Do you have any experience running this turbo on smaller engines like a 5.9?

I personally have zero experience with it. Perhaps others have and will chime in.

From what I've read, I think the turbine wheel on the h2e is 70+ mm on the small end, big enough with a big exhaust housing to do what you want to do. I've also read that these come with anywhere from a 63-71 mm compressor inducer. Imho, with about a 66 mm or larger compressor inducer, it would work ok in a small set of twins. I take it you are running a p-pump for 550-600 hp?

I'm going to try and run a competition built VE. "The Hungry Diesel" makes one and so does Scheid Diesel I believe that both use 14mm pump heads. I've seen a few instances of those pumps making it to 800hp with significant modification. The average I've seen for VE pumps is around 450-550hp maxed out so we'll see what happens. At the end of the day, I have no desire to p-pump it so I'll get where I can with the VE and call it good.
