www.diyautotune.com thats the site with alot of info on the megasquirt controller. i ran a megasquirt on my s 10 when i first got it up and going. it has an internal map sensor so maybe you could use the map along with the shaft speed and tps inputs and a 16x16 map and figure out a way to control the thing.

Here's how it should work...

Here's how I propose making it work...

OK, I like the idea of the servo motor

I was thinking using a hydraulic cylinder with a sensor. You can use engine oil to control it.

Swank,
Do you have a HY55V? Can you post some good pics of your vgt turbos. mostly the actuators and sensors. Mine will be a week before I get it.

The Megasquit has PWM out put channels, gas injectors are duty cycle solonids, Is there a way to convert that to voltage and bypass a PWM controller box?

i think the guys at ppe have somethin for the duramax that controls the vgt turbo. might try contacting them .

Chrysler used this effectively for years
Yes I know it is vacumn over boost, but it mechanical, and it wouldnt be too hard to put a electrical/valve in the vacumn line for the brakes that was run from the gas pedal

I origionally thought I could use this design and I may still as a last resort.

Right now I have a guy looking into it. The design so far is using a factory design auctator that uses oil pressure to close the housing and spring pressure to open.

Then we are going to uses an electronicly controlled valve that can push oil to to the acutator and bypass oil to allow the spring prussure to open the housing. All of this will be controlled by an ecu reading load, rpm, shaft speed and egt.

All we have is a design on paper right now, it will be a while before we have anything to show.

Ok, I am still working on this project and I am a little bit smarter now but not much.

my design is to:

Use engine oil pressure

feed into a PWM type solenoid valve or PWM pressure regulating valve

use factory aucator modifed to accept oil seals

use any type of pwm controller and write a map for turbo speed

use rpm and load for inputs for map

use shaft speed >130,000 and EGT >1600* to open housing

I now have a megasquirt to write a map, and a test truck.

I need opinions and ideas on if I can just use a solenoid, I found a 100% duty cycle 12v for 40.00. It can switch 600 times a minute or 10 times a second, will this be fast enough?

or do I need a PWM pressure regulating valve with return (Where can I find a cheep one?)

thanks for any ideas,

Seems like a dc linear actuator would be a more precise and durable choice over a servo. They would be easier to control with a microprocessor since they a "stepper" stye motor.

I've been thinking about doning this too lately I'm a ford diesel tech I've been looking at how I could make one off of a 6.0 work on a 5.9 I could get the sensors to control it ;) just couldn't find any body that made a standalone computer to control it . Does any body know if they make a differant exhaust housing to those turbos???

Has anybody done any more on this for us diesel guys I have found alot of right ups the riceburners sites about tusing the 6.7 cummins holset turbos but nobody has made a stand alone set on there eather that have made some mechanical vgts. The 6.7 tubos can be picked up cheap on ebay.

Nope, the idea and market has been out there for two years now and nobody's taken the initiative.

It's frustrating and stupid.
