You did bottom-tap the stud holes in the block . .. correct?

Strangely enough I bottom tapped my block years ago and the studs cleared fine. How many people here know what happens to pistons when a little fleck of rtv ends up in a cooling nozzle?

Hey Joel

You get out the drill press- and a good lateral sliding vice and you chuck them babies in and drill 1 1/2" holes n pipe thread em where you have those UGLY holes, , then put sum 1 1/2 x 1 1/2 nipples in them holes and then order yurself a set of 6 valve cover breathers

then you bottom tap those holes n get the studs down where they belong

Mind you - from what I have heard - this is why many have to mill the tops of the rocker stands cuz somebuddy didnt think this all the way thru and lots o people have had clearance issues. I would blame the stud smanufacturer for not supplyin a proper install recipe

Come on man you do much better work than this - fix it!!

Hes the only one out of all of you guys to have this idea, guys it was a freakn joke, i drilled the holes to put the breathers in, it was just a temporary fix, while i was sand blasting.

But still the reason the A1s dont fit is because at the bottom of the stud they are made to seat in the bottom of the block, i could of ground them off but since i was going to put the breathers on i figured it wont matter. And the holes were perfectly cleaned! A1s just dont fit properly.

The cheesy breather idea is bad. They will leak and be very greasy. Even one will make a mess, but six  .

So did you bottom tap the block? Or didn't even pull the head when you installed the studs?

so Mr Bgilbert - I guess that every one of hundreds including I bleive KTA's, valve cover breathers ,leak all over - pull yur head out of ur ass - every one is a wee bit tired of your insults and crap that you spew in most of your retorts on peoples threads

You gonna tell us all you never made a mistake in haste or went down a wrong road

Constructive criticism is always welcome but your rarely ever that;
constructive.

Joel - when you faux pas, dont sidestep it - own it, and admit it, the rtv silicone was your answer, not the breathers.

This thread has gone as far as it should - nuff said

no ken im very serious i am doing the body on the truck right now and i was sand blasting some stuff so i cut the holes in the valve covers to make the covers fit and i used the silicon to fill the holes, so the sand and crap wouldn't get into the motor. i have the breathers on order they should be in tomorrow!

And Bgilbert how do you fix a head gasket with out pulling the head off?

and again the holes were very clean, i botto taped them then i took brake cleaner and the little red straw and blew the crap out of the holes, then i took the air gun and clean the holes again, there wasn't anything left in those holes when i was finished!

sorry man,

I just don't believe the sandblasting bit, Did you silicone up the intake opening too? or are you planning on porting you head with sand?

I think the only option is to bottom tap the holes or to put the breathers on, I agree the breathers will make a mess but I like that option better than silicone plugging up an oil galley.

I don't want to get this thread off track. But I'm adding yet another wannabee ;) to my "I'm not gonna help out anymore list, seeker..".

On the subject of additional crank case venting, it's been covered through and through. The silly gasser breathers are an option, but certainly not near the best option. 24 valve timing cover breather, or the ag/case/cummins two in one valve cover breather being the top dog.

What do 24 valves have?

A crappy tube that blows oil mist on to the radiator so it can collect dust, plug, and over heat your truck. ;)
