I got a 64mm HE451 VGT, intake plate, wastegate, air filter, exhaust with DPF and electric cut-out, belt-driven fuel pump, datalogger and who knows what else in the garage waiting to install... Maybe this summer when the days are longer and I have a girlfriend.

I asked Pete for some help on the matter, but he wasn't very receptive to the thought.

I thought that was closer to stalking than asking her out, but that's just MHO. ;)
Take the Bullballs from under the bumper of your truck, put them in your pocket so you can at least feel like you have a set, and ask her out!

Well I've got the mess now . . . . AG Precision M/N: NTM-400, http://www.fiptestbenches.com/injection ... ester.html
(As found here ~ http://www.fiptestbenches.com).

I mounted it to a scrap piece of 2 x 12. It's a rough but substantial cast aluminum base. The big valve under the gauge is used to isolate the gauge during certain tests otherwise it's used as a snubber to smooth pulsations while the injector is popping. (Soda and smokes are for size reference).

Image

The reservoir holds about a quart and has a 5 micron filter. The lever works against what looks a lot like a roller-lifter in the base.

This one has a standard 150mm gauge (I wanted a larger one for it's finer resolution). There's a glycerin filled version available for extra.

Here I'm playing with an old "stock" core. I can't remember who I got them from, but my intent was the cores. This one pops at 190BAR. Stock is 245 I believe.

As much as I'll use the thing, I feel it will serve my needs just fine. 8)

I'm thinking I'll pull the 6x0.016"s in the truck and check them initially to see where they're at and for how much variance between each other . Then after picking a target POP pressure, set them all consistently to the same new figure. We'll see . . . . .

That's actually really cool to see. I have no use for that tool but id like to build one just to have and play with.

Does the tester seem like a well built tool to you?

For the money spent, I think so. I don't know that it'd be a good, long-lived investment for a diesel shop that would use it regularly (like, every other day).

Cast base (the factory description says aluminum, but without looking at it hard today, I thought it was cast iron), a steel cylinder. The fittings and valve appear substantial. The gauge, while basic, appears to move tightly with the pulses if not snubbed. No slop in it's movement that I can detect. The injector high pressure feedlines that come with it, 12mm & 14mm, look like two simple regular, 8" or so, injector lines. The reservoir is made of sheet metal and uses a large banjo-bolt type attachment to the pump. The lever is just standard sheet metal pipe with a cheap, gripped handle. It came with a small bag of spare seals. :)

Looking at the description of this unit, compared to those others listed, it's suppose to be the heavy-duty version.

Briefly toying with it, I found I was able to have the pressure creep up to the point of Popping the injector. It seems fairly easy to be consistent with working the lever and have the injector pop consistanly. Doing so three or four times appeared to me to be enough to arrive at a good average pop number.

I dunno. So long as it doesn't spring a leak externally or internally, it should be golden. :)

If I may, I'll offer a suggestion, bend the lines so the injector hangs down. Then you can pop it inside a can or something to catch the mist. Much safer, you don't have to worry about your eyes and breathing the mist. No fuel dripping on the floor or table either.
Last time I was at the fuel shop I was surprised to see they have a can with a vacuum unit on it to catch the mist. Pretty smart idea.

Thanks for the suggestions folks. I'd initially thought of just doing the work outside as the injector (that one anyway) emits a very fine fog. Figured a fan could be used to blow across my work area.

But then it is kinda cold outside.
