Will a 235 spare fit under there?

So I got a stock wheel, a 235/85 16 E-load and I found the bar that goes the length of the truck between the crossmembers under the truck. So what else do I need? I bought some U-bolts and I could definitely mount the tire with some U-bolts but is that the right way to do it? How did the factory mount a wheel/tire to that bar under there?

The factory mounted the spare using two looooong bolts, the drivers side was king of like all-thread, and the passenger side had a j hook/mostly threaded bolt. The drivers side was set at a specific length so that when the spare was on the carrier, and the "loop" nut on the passenger side was tightened up, it kept the tire in place against the crossmember/support. So, in short, you could use two lengths of all thread and can make a replacement for the factory hardware on the cheap

Ok I dont see where the holes are. Could you post a picture? I dont want to start drilling. I would love to do it the right way instead of drilling into things

The holes are already there, the drivers side hole is just aft of where the frame levels back out after the axle on the bottom, and the passenger side is on the vertical part of the frame, about foot or less from the end of the frame. The tire carrier mounts at about a 30 degree angle between the two. I will try and get some measurements and pictures up this evening...

Thanks! Oh so there is a carrier? I guess I don't have everything. I was trying to bolt it up via the lug nut holes but now I know better. Phew.

I made one out of a piece of 3" channel iron and some threaded rod like Ike said. I put an RC fuel tank in and don't hang the spare there anymore.

Pete, I think I would do that if I couldn't easily find anything factory. Hoping someone has a quick pic of the assembly and mount locations for me. My truck had a custom made goose hitch so I think all that was removed.

So the passenger side mount (j hook) mounts to the vertical part of the frame not the horizontal hole?
