Yeah they want almost $300 to ship just a hood. I'm still leaning towards buying one if I can get it shipped cheaper.

Florida, it wouldn't be too bad. Good excuse to take the old lady on a vacation.

Some more progress, threw on the RC front bumper and it's mounts. they don't go as far under the core support, and they have an angle to them that doesn't line up as well to the bottom of it. Definitely different than the 2wd bumper mounts in that area.

I compared where the bumper touched to the frame on that truck to where the front leaf spring is on my truck and it will clear them easily. The mount is behind that bolt you see sticking down out of there.

Image

With the bumper touching the frame the front clip sits just like this. Perfect IMO.
Image

I measured around on the condenser and I think I can get it down to around 34", so getting enough cut out of the core support to leave it standing doesn't look to be a problem.
It's storming like crazy here, so I'm just going to send this now before the power goes out and I lose it. I'll add more tomorrow smoetime.

I would imagine you could order it and have them deliver it to the nats for your pickup. In the past ive seen several hoods with names on them stacked in a corner.

Alright, anyone here that's pulled a dash from the truck with the windshield still in? I asked about it over on RCC a while ago and someone told me the windshield rubber could be held up with picks and you could get a tool on them but there's no freaking way. I ended up hacking chunks out of it on Tyler's old truck so I could pull the harness out and see what I'm working with.

Anyways, is such a thing possible?

Also, mega-props to you, Andy, I would rather saw my hands off than try to get that harness weaseled through there with it still in the truck.

Its really not that bad once I sat back and thought about it just takes a while. I was able to use the power doors harness that ran up in the dash just used my main harness. There is only one ground point. I pulled instrument cluster, heat controls, radio and steering column. It gave me a lot of room even for my big paws. If I can do it anyone can.

If nobody's got any secret info I may just be doing the same thing for myself. There is a lot of room with the column out of there, but I'm still not looking forward to it.

Another question. I just destroyed the steering column cover on Tyler's truck, couldn't get those dumbass torx's up inside it, so I was wondering if the steering column wiring out of that truck would fit inside my 90-style one. Is there a reason those newer ones are so gigantic and gaudy? I haven't had mine apart, but I've got a bad feeling judging from my memory of the plugin by the keyswitch... :?

Anybody able to confirm anyways?

:edit:

His truck had cruise control, mine didn't, that's about all I can thinkof that's different wiring-wise in the column area.

Yup, I'm almost positive it won't work, makes gutting that dash a complete waste of time minus the experience gained.

Due to recent hatin' by Hinemen I've decided I'm not waiting for anyone to do this thing for me. Seriously, WTF does it take to have someone get something done anymore?!?

Anyways, I hope to have this thing hacked into a 7.5" diameter circle with the correct backspacing and center hole to see if I can fit it in the space I'm working with. If not, it's getting chewed down to 7" since I know I'll have the room for that. That damn harmonic balancer is huge down there...

Image
By the way, it wa 95* today with 10000000000000000000000% humidity. That steel is 2" thick, I had to dump the sweat out of my glasses 3 times while I was chewing it out.

Alright you animals, quit begging, here's the progress!!!
Hacked to the best of my abilities/courage with the torch.
Image

Center hole bored to slip-fit over fan threads and turned as much as I could to 7.5". Gonna re-chuck it and get the other side, face it to the correct width, then see what backspacing I'll need to tuck it up against the other pulley and clear the fan.

Image

Dunno what it is with people refusing to try to do something for me anymore but fkcu 'em(all). I'll just cobble whatever the hell I need and spend the $250 I was going to happily pay for their pulley and drop it on a crossover steering setup instead. (Which, hypocritically enough I'm going to pay someone for)
