Pete's paid in advance, I just wish someone had told him about the gas or grass part of the deal.

I've been putting off working/painting on this thing because I didn't want to take the dodge down for any length of time. My other DD needs tires and I don't feel like buying them, so it's dodge or nothing right now.

Then I just randomly remembered that there was technically only 4 bolts and a belt holding the thing on, so I decided to see if I was right after work this evening.

It took me 15 minutes to get it out of there and the filter stuck back on the turbo inlet.

So I'm back to a single turbo for now. I'm going to jump 2 teeth on te pump and pull the pump back to the beginning of the slots, while I paint all that crap. Here's some pics to enjoy. :)

Driving it back home as a single tonight was hella weird. I guess you never really knew what you had until it's gone, but this thing is a turd without that blower. You could drink a gallon of milk in the time it takes that turbo to spool, and it's hella smoky once at full song. Still makes 45psi, even with the AFC so choked down, but it's really falling on its face up top.

I'm gonna try to fan up my bypass as well while it's off, because once it's painted we all know it ain't coming off again.

(Obligatory "That's what she said" for all my rod references)

Did some clutch linkage work this evening, it helped but I think it's time for a fluid change in the ol' Getrag.

It's a little longer than the old rod, but my locknut is hella thick so I'll put one about 1/3 the thickness on there and it'll even things out. Right now I bottom out the master before the pedal hits the floor.

You can see where I cheated and "adjusted" the pedal with some cutting and welding when I first put it in. I also welded up and reground the pin in the pedal itself, but by some miracle the pot metal master rod ate through it already.

The user "Meiser" on here has a write up on how he fixed his the first time with epoxy and whatnot, but apparently it broke again and he documented his fix over on the Expedition Portal forum he seems to frequent the most. I'm gonna steal his other post about it and add it to the one here. With as much E-cred as possible. :)

I never said he wasn't classy, I just said he was a homo. Now that we got that out of the way........ ;)

That looks good Levi. Did you know there is supposed to be a plastic bushing on that pin? (from the factory anyways) I think the brass will hold up better though. Don't forget the finished pics!

Not much to see, it just pops back into the retainer in the master and bolts to the pedal. Actually, that brass is just a bushing, the pivoting is all done at the rod end now. The threads are solid with the pedal, I just ran a lock washer and nut down against the pedal.

If you mean finished pics of the blower, that may be a while. I've got to try to figure out how to mount my bypass so I can still fit it and operate it. I'll keep all my best buddies on 1stgen up to date.

You and Hiney too, Pete.

Alrighty, folks I've got a timing question for you. My truck is currently at bumped timing. To the head, more or less. I'm looking into advancing it a good bit more, but as of right now my injectors are spraying right to the edges of my bowls.

First of all, is there any fears in spraying outside the bowl besides washing down the cylinder walls and/or melting the edges of the bowls? I'm not worried about getting it hot enough to melt anything as my EGT's barely tick the edge of my 1500* gauge now with no IC. I'll have it all together and functioning by the time I bump this thing.

I'm planning a 2-tooth jump, then pulling the pump back to the beginning of the slots. Any chance of this amount being enough to get fuel on the walls? I doubt it, since my injectors aren't that huge and I don't consider it a huge jump, but if you know better please let me know.

Thoughts on this being too much timing for a DD? I can spool my HX52 very quickly now with the blower, so I'd like to take advantage of it with a bump to help clear up smoke.

I'd also like to note that without the blower my truck hazes like a beast at idle. I had just kind of forgot about it since it had been on there for so long, but I started it the other morning and was tying some stuff down in the bed and thought a fog had rolled in. Until it started burning my nose.

Extreme early mockup pic:

I'm figuring on welding a short, steel 45* pipe to the turbo inlet pipe, a short coupler to the TB, then making a plate off the blower inlet pipe for the TB to bolt to, all 4" holes. The flow path sucks balls, but it's all I left myself to work with so that's what it's getting.

Image

I've also decided on just jumping one tooth and going back to stock marks. Hiney and I had a chat on timing amounts and I don't think 2 teeth is called for in my case, even if I don't need help spooling a turbo.

So, I'm working on a little side project for DodgeFreak. I'll let him explain the specifics, but it involves being able to fit an hx35 turbine wheel in his HE351cw turbine housing. I've got an H1C that I ran an HX35 housing on while I was between turbos, so I used its wheel to get my measurements.

Housing comparison:

Turbine housing exducer of 351cw:

Measurement of H1c wheel exducer:

And inducer:

Looks as simple as boring out the exducer to 61mm on the 351 housing, nothing else will interfere in there that I can tell.

Thoughts?

I'll let you guys know how this goes, hopefully DF will show up in here and see what's up. I'm holding his progress hostage, he has to look at my thread to see it. :P

Also, I didn't get any pics of it but the turbo is off the manifold and the blanket is ready to go on. I figured since I had it down this far I'd go ahead and do it. Pulled off my external 'gate and put my cover on, then started fitting the blanket.

I ordered some pieces of 4" exhaust piping to make a new intake setup, Carl informed me that he had little luck trying to make both inlets share a filter, so I'm piping for twin inlets now.

Grabbed a pic of where I stopped last night before I got started, it's always nice to see how dirty this thing gets.
Image

And also a pic of my project while the silicone dries on the manifold blanket. This may have something to do with my troubles defrosting.

So, did you guys know that when you turn your fan on air is supposed to come out of the vents? I had no clue.

Big thanks to "Carrnut" over on DTR for this idea, it worked great.
