You heard wrong! They are a gigantic cluster wHat? Waiting to happen. They are NOT cheap to build either unless your buying el cheapo parts. The solenoid pack in that thing cost close to 350$ at ford,225 at transtar. The banner Kit (clutches,papers,seals) is 175$ where the dodge stuff cost less than 150.

They can be simple to someone thats built a few,but if you've never been there before it'll kick your rear into oblivion. One wrong move,wrong stack up of plates and your screwed,leave a thrust bearing out and it'll eat itself.
About the only thing on a E4od I find simple is the valve body,three different levels, and all valves are exposed so you can actuate them with a pick. Very handy when you inspect one. The only valves that are totally concealed are the shift valves,you only need to fool with those when you do a shift kit....that is way easier than a dodge trans....
