All lip seals point inward.....like what you've seen in your rear clutch. The fluid pushes the lips out and the lips hold the fluid behind the piston.

Alright thanks Ellis 8)

I put them that way after seeing them pointing in on the rear clutch. I have the front and rear packs together and on the input. Moving on into the case.

I have the 3 speed section together, minus the VB. And the strut for the low band. I don't know where it went. It evaporated and went to the same place as my bushing kit.

On my next big project I'm going to sell tickets so people can watch. If I wasn't half pissed off that I can't find anything, it'd be hilarious.

You will find it all after your done. I've learned to buy a tub with a lid and put all my parts in it as I buy them.

Well I'm glad I'm not the only one. My inner cheap azz says steal the one out of my 727 right before I make the swap, but they're only $12.

I've probably used a roll of trash bags and a box of zip-locs to keep it all together and clean.

I'd scare you to death if you seen how I do it

I basically pile the whole unit,as I disassemble/inspect each piece, then wash the cases, then wash each piece as I assemble the trans.

My dad use to wall up to my trans table, shake his head, then walk away

Ha! I'll raise you one story on doing it the "wrong way". I used my direct spring compressor, a floor jack, and the landing for the washer/dryer to compress the springs in the front clutch pack.

Soooooo.....

Having never compressed the direct spring more than the 1/32 of an inch I needed to take the O/D assembly apart, I didn't know that I was gouging the sun gear's teeth into the side of the direct drum until it all let go and suddenly got really easy to compress. I cracked the thrust bearing under the spring plate too. All this happened despite finding a new spring compressor that pushed the drum far straighter than before.

Oh well, I now know the feeling of the sun gear running into the side of the direct drum. Won't make that mistake again.

That looks damn-near fool proof. I'll find out for sure when I put it all back together 8)

Thanks Ellis.

It mashes that spring down evenly as long as you have the chisel centered with the intermediate shaves hole. Straight forward amd simple.

When you go back together with it what do you use to keep the splines lined up?? I've always just used the inter. shaft.

A cut down intermediate shaft, drilled an tapped for a 3/8ths bolt to remove it with. When I get back to the shop I'll snap a pic.
