I really like having a lift. It's pretty convenient to be able to walk under the truck and get at everything

fatty wrote:BC how much higher does that put the truck than just sitting on the ground? I'm wondering how high I should lift mine up when I pull my trans (hopefully) next weekend. Higher would be easier for working but I can only go so high before my trans jack won't reach anymore. I'd go do some measuring and math but its sprinkling a little outside and I don't like to be in the rain any more than necessary.

It's tough to see but the front axle is in full droop with approximately 6" between the tires and the ground surface. Hell, I may have it too high. I'll have to adjust it with getting the trans-jack under it later.
See the puddle of oil? I just drove the truck onto the platform and shut it down. :?

It's hard to see the blocks in this image. I may have actually had one set of 8x8 blocks under the front tires, and a double stack under the rear . . ..

Whew... Hit the road at 5:30 this morning and just grabbed a beer outta the fridge at 7:43. 8) Besides my right leg, my body seems relatively unaffected by the trip. My right knee and ankle feel like somebody beat them with baseball bats though. :(

18.1 mpg from here to Clinton, ID. I filled up there because the road to Caleb's from Bill's looked like a ghost town and I didn't know if I'd find fuel anywhere along it.

Return trip from Clinton, to the Waffle House in Boone, KY, then to my driveway.

Image

Things I've learned:

Bill is a nice dude to deal with, he had the diff cover pulled for me when I got there to inspect the gears and was seemingly willing to sit there as I disassembled the entire axle to inspect it. Also a nice dude in general, but I don't want to ruin any reputation he may be working on.

Caleb's truck only has me beat in cobbling because I haven't resorted to bailer twine on mine yet. Thanks to your roads, I may be using some pretty soon to tie my driveshaft up. I know I said your roads are worse than ours, but ours have never caused a disengaged driveshaft to be magically removed from the front yoke.

You've got to admit, that's impressive. I owe another thank you to Andy for spotting it before I left part of it imbedded in someone's windshield.

Also, Andy was having performance issues due to lack of shaft length. I put my hands on a shaft Caleb had, and we think that'll fix any length problems Andy was having. 8)

Good to meet everyone, sorry I didn't stick around and shoot the sthi longer, but I honestly expected to be dragging in around 10:30. I love the constant 80-90mph speed "limit" all over Indiana. It definitely helped me out on time.

Another hour and I think my truck would have been scattered, smothered, and covered.

Yep, welcome to Northern Indiana Levi. Our roads suck, but here you can actually get enough speed up do some damage.

Why in the hell did you go back through Clinton? I'd have taken 65 to Indy and then taken 74 to Cincy. On second thought, if you'd taken the interstates, you would have thrown the rear driveshaft too. Glad you made it home safe.

I laughed when he text me asking about waffle house. I cruise in and there sits his truck with a dangling from shaft and him not noticing it lol. I will say one thing I haven't met anyone off this site that wouldn't do everything they can to help each other. Its a great group of guys.

I was just curious as to why you talked Levi up so much after meeting him and never acted like that after meeting me. Levi's description of your encounter explained it all. :yuck:
