I got power errwhere in this dash. Errwhere as in hot and ground wires. Hell, I've even got 12v in the support bracing for the dash where the column bolts up.

Finally said fkcu it and started grounding stuff really fast to see what happened. Grounded the column and saw the headlight flicker on. Left the wire on there a second longer and heard the CD player start powering up.

Now I just have to find out why all my grounds that I bolted up aren't grounding.

Heeeeeellllllll yyyeeeeeeaaaaaahhhhhh. 8)

Got it!!!!!

The ground on the firewall wasn't good enough, so I clipped it and ran it back to the battery post with the other ground. Then I spent about 25 minutes trying to figure out why it wouldn't start. Started tracing diagrams until I hit the neutral start switch.

...oops...

Been so long without any sort of starting safety stuff that I forgot they ever had any. Hooked it up and I seem I have a full, working dash harness. It charges, and has oil pressure. 8)

Now I've got to figure out what I'm doing with that taillight plugin and see if wires are different for the gas gauge...

Not sure on the wires but I know the resistance on the sender is different. I have the RC tank in mine and the gauge reads off. It doesn't come all the way up when full or to E when empty. If you use the RC dash it will probably ok.

Can't use the RC dash, it's a cable speedo. Good info though, thanks. 8)

I finally gave up and hacked about 2ft out of the '91 body harness. I'll plug it in and splice it into the existing Ramcharger harness for now to get rear lights and fuel level. :?

I got all my fittings for my universal fuel filter setup wrapped in Teflon tape. Now I just need to mount it to the frame, drain all the fuel from the tank, put in my sump, run all the lines then see if she'll fire

Levi, just use the diesel fuel module, or swap the sender itself from the module.

I have update pics on the garden tractor conversion,

The exhaust is going to be a real SOB, the battery and fuel tank are going to be interesting to do, but there is no place to run the exhaust to. I think it's going to go to the right side and then forward over the pulleys and out right behind the grill upright. Fun fun!

Anyone know if TVdiesel is still the cheapest place for the Diamond Eye exhaust?

I bought mine from redneckroot for less than TVdiesel advertises. It may have been on sale.

So today I loaded h&s 'hot damn' tuning onto my mini maxx, exported the tune to sd card, and put most of my other maps onto it. I'll see if it throws codes tomorrow. If it doesn't I'll be happy

Thought about it, but the air cleaner has to go up there (I think) and I want to use it, so it needs to be sorta quiet. I decided I'm going to put everything else together, then run it to see how loud it is with a straight pipe, and go from there.

Anyone know when the diesel v dubs changed from mechanical to electronic injection? Lookin at a couple different stick shift cars for sale on line and would prefer mechanical injection pump.

Txs, last US all mechanical was in 1990. Canada got it until 97. 98.5 came the TDI (previous were IDI) which has a pump quite similar to the VP44. In fact it's named VP34. A mechanical 4cyl VE swaps on real easily.

we are interested in a 2002 beetle 5 speed, do you need to keep a close eye on lift pump pressure like you do the vp44 trucks?
