So here was my morning. Ran the same fuelling as I normally do (makes about 470whp) and it did pretty good. I only hit 1950* the one time passing a semi

So that thing making 470whp feels like a 1st gen with 300, right?

I'm SERIOUSLY considering (for the sake of learning about the new stuff(company stuff)).... about buying a new truck. You've all seen my thread about vehicle technology... but you can only fight it for so long, if one is going to sell parts for the very trucks that have that technology.

What year should I buy? Votes?

Yeah pretty much. The 1st gen might need a little bit more than 300. My vote is a 10-12, or 06-09

I have a pretty bad opinion of the newer stuff now, well after being chewed up by a duramax. There are a few things that might have a lot of mystery with the newer stuff like tuning the with a laptop or something ,but really it's a bolt on world with those things. Delete this, bolt this on,buy this prefabed pos that adds X amount of hp and bang you have a rocket.......big deal.
If your gonna do something Eric ppump a 24v or 6.7. Do something out of the normal instead of out of a box.

The only thing I know about a 6.7 is they sound like crap with strait exhaust.

P pump... isn't going to benefit me, the company, nor my customers. P pump may happen for a toy, but not a wise business decision. Also, keep in mind, that these newer trucks have custom tuning... therefore are completely different than the 24 valve vp or the early common rail trucks. It is just like getting back to the ve where you can have 2 trucks with the same mods and 1 may throw down 150 hp more than the other, all because of tuning.

I really want an 06 or 07 5.9.... but logic and common sense tells me to go with a brand spanking new truck. That way I can learn a long with the rest of the world on it.

Dar... I feel any cr system sounds like complete garbage with straight pipe. They get a muffler if I own them. A straight flow muffler mind you, but a muffler none the less.

I wouldn't say all straight pipe common rails sound bad. It's just the ones with a stock exhaust manifold and stock(ish) injection events that sound nasty. With a 2nd gen manifold and good tuning they sound way different.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l77Zgd9EBhc The blue chevy is a common rail on a standalone controller (I think).

Yea.... It has to do with the injection event on why they sound the way they do. Change that and change the exhaust tone.

It have less the 8,000 miles and been to the dealer 4 times for transmission problems. One time it wouldn't let the driver take it out of park but when it got back to the shop everything worked just fine and the dealer said nothing was wrong. Also it uses DPF like crazy, like 12gals in 1,600 miles. The sales rep. for Wisconsin has a new duramax when loaded it uses 10gals of DPF in 5,000 miles. I'm sure with tuning and deleting stuff it would fix most of it but if it was me I wouldn't want to fix a brand new truck and end up with no warranty.
