80f outside, 123f inside up in this dump (at work). Going outside feels phenomenal.

Been working on The Pile a little, trying to resolve the dog tracking issue...

How long should it take a seasoned 12v owner to adjust the valves? Not the 2 hours I took. I dropped 2 valve cover bolts down the hood latch hole. Of course, the hit the intercooler and drop behind it. I removed the top radiator holders, lean back the radiator, grab a tire iron, and used another piece of rod to scoop them up into the lug nut pocket.

Valve train is quieter but there's this minor lope I hear. Now that it's quieter, I head a tick. No valve was too loose or tight. All needed adjusted. I did .008 and .018 like I've always done. Power is a little more linear I think.

But there's this tick. I hope it is an injector. If it is, I may need to upgra---- replace the bad injectors.

It was a sad day at the Cat store yesterday. I return to school Monday so Friday was my last day. The service manager sought me out to shake my hand, thank me for the help, and ask if I'd be returning next summer. At the end of the day the dispatcher expressed his thanks numerous times and asked me to return next summer. The head mechanic also thanked me vigorously and offered a beer. Even some of the experienced mechanics (that I thought didn't care for me, the educated kid who could work with his hands) shook my hand and thanked me for the help. One of the truck drivers even asked if I'd take night classes and continue working there during the day.

Overall it was an excellent experience. I got to sharpen many existing skills and learn a few new ones. I never thought I'd be so happy with an off-farm job, but I made a lot of money and many new friends. Long term, there isn't a place where I'd fit in there. I would be content with the service manager position, but it would rub a lot of people the wrong way if someone with no formal mechanic experience held that job. Looking around the shop, I felt pride in my skills believing that I could take any of the rookie mechanics' jobs. I also felt a little amused that me, who has learned everything I know from a few good friends and countless hours of experience, could out-work a tech school educated mechanic with tens of thousands of dollars worth of tools.

And Monday I have an interview with a large farmer to get on for fall help. It could turn into full time employment after graduation, as he does not want to do all the data management himself and I love that side of farming, but can also do the hands on part of farming.

Jeff, I do believe you did. If it was still there you should have grabbed it anyways and let him deal with the fallout. ;)

Jon, do you have a piston LP? Mine ticks like a SOB sometimes. But it could be an injector if you want it to.

Caleb, sad for them because they lost their #1 gofer? Don't worry about not being a mechanic in the service managers job, but it does help. Our last boss came from a car dealership, and had no idea what a loader or dozer was. He also couldn't change a brake line when his truck blew one. He was great at the paperwork, and got warranty stuff paid real well. On the other hand, he had been there 5 years, and would come out and ask how long it takes to put a thumb on an excavator even though we did one just the week before. We were doing all the job quotes, it made a lot of extra work for us.
Do what you gotta do, just remember, it's easier to be a manager if you have done the workers jobs before.

And a well done to Rock Auto! I ordered a cat and O2 sensor for the old ladies car on Wednesday, and they both showed up today. I just hope that fixes it!

I think it is (I may change my mind though) time for the company to move into the newer century.....

Which year Cummins shall we play with?

Sadly, no. :( I may just sell it and be done with trucks. I need a backseat more and more. I've been eyeing mid 70s and mid 90's Mercedes diesels. High 20's MPG and nice big interior... Parts readily available. No stupid dicks trying to smoke you out.

I wish I could, but I have to have a truck. There's no way around it. I need a 3/4 ton truck at least once a week. I've tried to make a gas truck work, but every time I put pen to paper I can't make a gas job work.

Welcome to my life

My vote of course is something 6.7 powered.

I went to a derby this weekend followed by a concert. Corb Lund is pretty good live, but they didn't play for very long it seemed. We stayed so long after it ended security kicked us out.

My sticker is still sitting in my back seat. It'll definitely be on before SOP, but I'm not sure how soon before

Sure haven't Eric. Kinda dragging Ass on it really. The green clashes with all that silver and chrome on the 82 to the point I'm hesitant to apply it. I'm thinking about sticking it on my 9,000$ tool box tho

I'm seriously considering either a 2010 or 2014. 2014 would be to be in with the game of the new age non deleted stuff.....
