Thanks guys, I really like the car so far. It is by far the nicest thing I've owned.

The car beside mine is my brother's '85 Mercedes 300D, turbo diesel of course.

I dig the jetta. I was cruising autotrader looking at mpg getters the other day and you can get a brand new Chevy Cruze diesel with leather, etc. 46 mpg highway and 5 year 100k mile powertrain warranty for $17k. Tempting.

I'd heat/beat the hell out of the frame-side, springs just scare me. Any chance of fitting a hacksaw blade in the bolt hole? Relief the brass in a couple places and it would probably hammer right out.

Yeah I think one will fit. May even be able to freeze the new bushings to help them slide in without too much effort

Where did you see that? The cheapest diesel cruze according to gms site is almost 23k. I like the Jetta by the way. What's going on with the Subaru? I see it sitting back there in the o e picture.

Just 2014 models listed on autotrader. There was like one or two for 17 something and several for 19 something. Those were new. And I guess all the diesel ones are top of the line, can't get a stripped down one. Only thing I didn't like was no manual trans.

No manual trans would be a deal breaker for me right there. If I'm having to drive a pos car for mpg's I at want a little fun

The auto in that car is fabulous.

$17k?!?!?!?! You sure it wasn't an Eco model? That is different from the diesel.

Fleeces cruze runs. I'm glad I stayed late at the dyno day. It got my attention.

Pending on the ever changing price of fuel, you'd about break even on the difference in price between the diesel and gas versions, but the diesel is supposed to be stout and the warranty is better.

Realistically.... it almost always breaks even now a days. Especially since the harsher emissions on the diesels... neuters them badly. In some cases, the gassers are cheaper per gallon.
