Who fixed their clockspring?

Postby PToombs » Sun Sep 26, 2010 2:20 pm

I took mine apart yesterday, the ribbon came off the stationary mount. All 6 wires are torn off. How did you fix it? I thought I might try to solder them back to the tabs but it's real close to the plastic.
Any helpful hints? TIA!

Do you have one of those battery powered solder guns? I forget the name but it gets cool instantly. It does a good job where to much heat is a bad thing.

I fixed mine but i don't have any pics :x ..i think if i remember right one of the ribbons is wider than the others
so you can figger out where they go, the hardest part is stripin and seperating the ribbons, my cruse still kinda
surges a little, but you can live with it while your foot gets a rest.

Ellis, no idea. I'm a little on the frugal side, I make Mainers look extravagant. ;)

Dar, I saw 2 on the one side are narrow. I have it figured out direction wise, just the doing part I need a little help with. Somebody told me recently that if the truck is turned up much it will surge pretty bad. But I need to find out these things for myself. ;)

Pet i had a ruff time gettin that stupid thing striped back without damaging the thin little
ribbons, i think i used a cigarette lighter and then sanded off the rest.

That would be me, the MAINER. It was the same time that you gave directions on how to make french fries.

And my 93 will make you seasick with the cruise on. :puker: :pukel:

I'm having a hard time getting it to stay together, it peels right apart. How did you get the ribbon fastened to the base piece with out melting the plastic?

Oh, and don't call me pet in public, people will find out about us and Rich will get jealous. ;)

Peter i sharpened the end of my soldering like an ice pick and it worked, i used really small flux core solder.

Leave my peter out of this!

Sorry, I couldn't help it. My tip (on the soldering gun!) is getting pretty whipped, I can grind it down easy enough. Small solder I'll have to get.
Thanks Dar.
