Stacking blocks ok or not?

Postby slow_90firebird » Fri Sep 30, 2011 7:39 pm

Hey guys I just installed my skyjacker d200cs front springs and it gave me a little more lift than I expected. I need an inch or two in the rear now.

I have stock springs in the back with whatever tall factory blocks came on a 93 w250. Would it hurt to put a small block on top of the factory block?

I already know your gonna say get rid of the blocks and get new skyjacker rear springs but that's not in my budget

No. Hell no. Definitely not. You could just do an add a leaf. Or the shackle hanger swap, details over on rcc in the how to section. I think that's what I'm going to do for the rear on my truck since I'm too cheap to buy rear springs. Only thing worse than stacking block, is putting blocks in the front.

Yup, those are fine. I have them on in the front and rear.

Do you have them on top of the factory rear blocks?

Also, how hard was the install? I know I would need u-bolts, but do I need to take the springs out of the hanger at all? or can I leave them all bolted up?

They bolt to the leaf spring just like another leaf. Install is not hard provided you can lower the diff far enough to let tension off the spring and get the block underneath. You will want a c-clamp to hold the leaf spring together when you remove the centre bolt.

Derick, not to rain on your parade but if DOT of IL (don't know about other states) finds you added "blocks" to the front axle, MAJOR violation. The blocks are not approved nor safe.

Well what do you guys think? I know it was dark but I took pics at the store of how it sits now... when I look at the driver side one it looks perfect to me, but the passenger side one doesent because of the hump (frame might be bent a little but I want to find a way to shim up the bed a little)

They are not blocks, they are a thick add-a-leaf. They are part of the spring pack and held in by the centre bolt, not just the u-bolts like a regular block.
