front sway bar

Postby skilletky » Mon Jan 23, 2012 4:22 pm

Was looking at a pick of a truck like mine, 2wd drw lbs with 4k front axle, and noticed the truck had a front sway bar. Mine don't, did they not all come with one or was mine removed at some point in time.

MOST 1 tons have them, some don't.
Same deal on 3/4 tons, I've never found a rhyme or reason as to why some do and some don't, just that I've seen a lot of these trucks and they seem to be missing/never there.

All diesel 4X4s were always equipped with them, but a good number of them don't have the bars, either.

It would help, but I've been noticing that people can't seem to find the end link kits for the 2wd ones.
It's possible that's WHY people remove them in the first place, simply because they can't fix them when they break.

That's what I was thinking, I called around trying to find some parts and noons has anything except the bushings. Mark, if you happen to come across a complete setup with everything needed for install, let me know if ya want to sell it.

my 2500 had one, and I removed it because of the links.

I wonder if trucks that did not come with front sway bars had the same upper axle plates with the tab for the swaybar?

Replaced all my swaybar bushings with Poly from Energy Suspensions just last Fall. So they're still available FYI.

My 92 was missing the swaybar (but then again, one of the spring plates was installed backwards so the eye was in the wrong spot  ) The 93 parts truck had one so I installed it.

With a 4" lift you need to drop the swaybar (2" IIRC) Skyjacker sells a drop bracket for that purpose. With the extra flex of the 4" lift the truck will handle better with the swaybar installed. I got pretty good at disconnecting the end links when I went wheeling then hooking it back up when I was done. I then had to take the swaybar off when I installed crossover steering and   8) That truck handled better than I had ever experienced!!! Completely sold on the crossover steering now.

Yes they did. My dad bought my W250 new and it came without a swaybar but with the tabs on the plates.

Note that the OEM swaybar is discontinued and when the parts manager at my local Dodge dealer checked his computer there is no dealer in the US still holding one -- so the junkyard is the only place to find one now.

If you find the bar in a junkyard you may just be able to find links from another application or just weld up a set.

I still have a spare 4x4 bar, with the frame mounts, but no end links.
Someone asked about it a while back and I found out that it's still here.
